Wireless application in intravenous infiltration detection system.
The IrDA wireless protocol has been applied to a fiber optics based point-of-care system for the detection of intravenous infiltration. The system is used for monitoring patients under infusion therapy. ⋯ The PDA is used for initiating the actions of the electronic module and for data transfer. Security is provided by specially designed software and hardware.

Preliminary study on physiological changes of hemorrhagic shock in rats.
Hemorrhagic shock is a common cause of death in emergency rooms. The objective evaluation of hemorrhagic shock is very important for early diagnosis and treatment. ⋯ We constructed an integrated system to be able to control bleeding and to simultaneously measure bio-signals such as ECG, blood pressure, temperature, and respiration. In order to verify the system, we measured the bio-signals mentioned above while hemorrhagic shock was induced by withdrawing blood (2.5 ml / 100 g / 15 min) from a femoral vein for 10 rats.

Comparative StudyEvaluation tests for eye tracking systems.
In this paper, we describe the tests developed by our research team to evaluate the performance of eye tracking algorithms to quantify vertical and horizontal eye movements. To perform the tests, we created a special library to generate synthetic eye images, where we can control most characteristics of the eyes. It is possible to simulate the different situations observed during the acquisition of eye images of a real subject.

This paper describes an accurate, economical, and portable device that helps to locate the position of an endotracheal tube (ETT) in situ. The device uses an array of magnetic field sensors to detect an anomaly in magnetic field caused by magnet embedded near the cuff of an ETT, and displays an intuitive map of relative magnetic field intensity under the sensor area. The device provides real-time feedback of the position to a clinician, so that corrective measures can be taken if the ETT is determined to be outside of normal positioning with respect to the patient's airway. Variations of the proposed design are suitable for continuous monitoring.

Automatic home care system for monitoring HR/RR during sleep.
This paper described an automatic home care system for monitoring HR/RR during sleep. Pressure signal is measured with a completely unconstrained pressure sensor beneath a pillow; then the signal is digitalized and the data are transmitted to a remote server using TCP/IP via a netbox. The data are processed and analyzed with a wavelet-based algorithm to obtain the heart rate and respiration rhythm during sleep. Through analyzing 180 days' data obtained from a female subject, it was found that this system can be used for daily monitoring heart rate and respiration rhythm during sleep and evaluating the quality of sleep at home.
