[18F-fluorodesoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography in extramedullary multiple myeloma].
18F-fluorodesoxyglucose positron emission tomography/ computed tomography (PET-CT) has a high sensitivity and specificity to detect medullary and extramedullary lesions in multiple myeloma (MM). ⋯ PET-TC was useful to diagnose EMM. However, a standardization in PETCT reports would be required to unify criteria. As previously reported, EMM had a greater aggressiveness and lower survival.

Ejection fraction (EF) is defined by the ratio of end-systolic volume (ESV) and end-diastolic volume (EDV). The resulting fraction is a dimensionless number whose interpretation is ambiguous and most likely misleading. Despite this limitation, EF is widely accepted as a clinical marker of cardiac function. ⋯ Our physiology-based approach denounces the circumstantial theories invoked to justify the importance of EF as an index of cardiac function, which are critically discussed. EF appears to be nothing more than a blessing in disguise. For this reason, we propose the ESV as a more logical metric for the analysis of ventricular function.

Neurocysticercosis is the most prevalent parasitic disease of the central nervous system in Chile, where sporadic cases are reported, without information about the epidemiology or distribution of the disease. ⋯ We identified the zone with the greatest concentration of cysticercosis in Chile, where preventive strategies should eventually be directed.

[History and challenges of clinical simulation in the learning of procedural skills by nursing students].
Procedural skills are essential in the nursing profession and should be acquired during undergraduate training according to new regulations. Clinical simulation is a good alternative to teach such skills. ⋯ The latter should become an important teaching tool while restrictions in mobility last. We herein review the evolution of clinical simulation as a teaching tool and to determine its future challenges.
