[The correlation between gastric intramucosal pH and oxygen delivery in patients with septic shock].
We studied the correlation of intramucosal pH (pHi), oxygen delivery (DO2) and oxygen consumption (VO2) in 21 patients with septic shock, and found that pHi decreased dramatically (P < 0.05) in nonsurvivors while it had no significant change in survivors. In survivors, there was a positive correlation between pHi and DO2 (r = 0.71, P < 0.001), pHi and VO2 (r = 0.63, P < 0.001) when DO2 was below the critical level of 641 ml/min/m2. ⋯ The correlation between pHi and DO2 proves the oxygen supply dependency of VO2. The hypoxia in tissue level is the main factor which results in a high mortality of septic shock patients. pHi is a reliable and useful parameter not only for prognosis, but also for titrating the therapy in septic shock if pHi is monitored serially together with DO2.

[Effects of thermal injury on production of nitric oxide in rat heart].
To elucidate the relationship between thermal injury and production of nitric oxide (NO), we measured the levels of heart No2-/NO3- (the stable and products of NO) and GMP in rats with full thickness burn of 30% TBSA. A higher level of heart tissue NO2-/NO3- was observed from 3 to 24 hours after burn injury. ⋯ L-NMMA, a specific inhibitor of NO synthetase (NOS), can block the rise of heart NO2-/NO3- and the enhancement of heart water content. The results indicate that the heart injury caused by burn injury may be associated with induction of NOS and formation of NO.

Case Reports[The reconstruction of facial burn and deformity from burn scar].
Thirty-seven patients with facial full-deep burn and burn scar contructure were treated in our department. The operation included transplantation, of whole piece of full thickness skin (3 patients), transplantation of whole piece of full thickness skin with subdermal vascular rete a (1), transplantation of improved whole piece of full thickness skin (26), and separated transplantation of large piece of partial thickness skin (7). ⋯ The facial skin of separated transplantation had slight scar and pigmentation. The improved whole piece of full thickness skin was recommendable for avoiding the secondary ectropion of eyelid and lip.

[The effect of intralipid on the membrane fluidity of lymphocytes from human blood].
We observed the effect of 10% intralipid on the membrane fluidity of lymphocytes by means of fluorescent polarization measurement. After in vitro incubation with intralipid in concentration 0, 10, 20mg/ml, the lymphocytes from healthy adult blood showed no changes in the membrane fluidity (P > 0.05). In vivo, the membrane fluidity of lymphocytes did not alter significantly during and after infusion of 500ml 10% intralipid at a speed of 100ml per hour into healthy adult (P > 0.05). ⋯ Intralipid mainly contains triglycerides composed of polysaturated fatty acids and lecithin as emulsifier. The result showed that intralipid may neither alter the lipid composition of lymphocytes membrane nor the membrane fluidity. Furthermore, in case of modulation of membrane lipid composition by intralipid occurs, cellular self-regulation may be accomplished by fatty acid synthesis to keep the membrane fluidity stable.

[The pathogenetic factors for neurogenic intermittent claudication caused by degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis].
The pathogenetic factors in 89 patients with typical neurogenic intermittent claudication caused by lumbar spinal stenosis were studied retrospectively. 75 patients had degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis, and 67 had unilateral nerve root canal stenosis. In most patients, the stenotic location was found at the entrance zone of nerve root canal (75/89), involving only a single level (60/89) mostly at L4.5. ⋯ The excellent and good early follow-up results were noted in 73% of the patients (65/89). The authors emphasized that the surgical treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis should be as less invasive as possible rather than a tranditional extensive lumbar laminectomy.
