Case Reports
Sporotrichosis refractory to conventional treatment: therapeutic success with potassium iodide.
Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous mycosis caused by dimorphic fungi of the genus Sporothrix. The authors report a case of fixed cutaneous sporotrichosis with therapeutic failure after 18 months of itraconazole and terbinafine associated with cryosurgery. ⋯ This fact suggests that therapeutic failure is probably related to the host-fungus interaction rather than drug resistance. It is possible that the immunomodulatory action of the saturated potassium iodide solution may have played an important role in curing this patient.

Randomized Controlled Trial
A randomized half-body, double blind, controlled trial on the effects of a pH-modified moisturizer vs. standard moisturizer in mild to moderate atopic dermatitis.
Higher skin pH in atopic dermatitis contributes to impaired epidermal barrier. A moisturizer compatible with physiological pH could improve atopic dermatitis. ⋯ Moisturization is beneficial for atopic dermatitis; use of physiologically compatible pH moisturizer is promising.

Observational Study
Demodex folliculorum infestations in common facial dermatoses: acne vulgaris, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis.
Demodex mites are found on the skin of many healthy individuals. Demodex mites in high densities are considered to play a pathogenic role. ⋯ The findings of the present study emphasize that acne vulgaris, rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis are significantly associated with Demodex infestation. Standardized skin surface biopsy is a practical tool in the determination of Demodex infestation.

Solar urticaria is a rare form of physical urticaria mediated by immunoglobulin E. The lesions appear immediately after the sun exposure, interfering with the patient's normal daily life. Omalizumab, a monoclonal anti-IgE antibody, has been recently approved for the treatment of chronic spontaneous urticaria, and the latest reports support its role also in the treatment of solar urticaria. Hereby, we report a case of solar urticaria refractory to conventional treatment strategies, with an excellent response to treatment with omalizumab and phototesting normalization.
