Almost all the functions of a living organism have circadian oscillations. Disturbance of circadian rhythms can be either a reason or a consequence of a number of diseases. The article describes data on relationship of circadian rhythm and clock genes disturbances with type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disease development in humans and animals.

[Evidence of feasibility etoricoxib therapy in osteoarthritis in elderly patients].
The article presents the results of a study of clinical efficacy in the treatment of etorikoxib pain in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee and hip joints in elderly patients. The study involved 296 patients with gonarthrosis and coxarthrosis. It is shown that etoricoxib effectively relieves pain, has an advantage over other NSAIDs speed and severity of the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, positive impact on laboratory signs of inflammation, demonstrated good tolerability and a low incidence of side effects, does not require discontinuation of therapy.

This article presents the review of literature devoted to studying of safety and efficacy of early carotid angioplasty and stenting (CAS) in older patients in acute stroke. CAS has been shown to be a non-inferior treatment to carotid endarterectomy for the prevention of recurrent strokes with equivalent rates of major complications (stroke, myocardial infarction and death). ⋯ In the past years, few researches (Setacci C., 2008; Battocchio C., 2012; Wach M., 2013, et al.) indicate that this procedure can be relatively safe, including elderly patients, even when performed early after a TIA or stroke. However, additional studies of safety and efficacy of early CAS must be undertaken to define the role of endovascular revascularization of the extracranial carotid arteries in the early management of acute stroke.

[Optimization of respiratory support of elderly patients with pneumonia in the early stages of respiratory failure].
The article provides an assessment of the effectiveness of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) in elderly patients with pneumonia in the early stages of acute respiratory failure (ARF). A total of 83 elderly patients with pneumonia were examined. ⋯ The first group consisted of patients treated by the method of NIV, the second one of patients receiving standard oxygen therapy. The results of the study show that the use of NIV in the treatment of pneumonia, complicated by the ARF in elderly patients resulted in a significant improvement of arterial blood gas as well as hemodynamic and respiratory systems, in comparison with those of patients receiving oxygen therapy.

[Biological age and the pain syndrome at diabetic polyneuropathy].
Patients with diabetic polyneuropathy were examined to study their biological age, rate of aging and pain syndrome. More rapid rate of aging was revealed in patients with diabetic polyneuropathy and pain syndrome. ⋯ Against the background of pain syndrome therapy the rate of aging is noticed to decrease along with the regression of pain syndrome. The medicines of Duloxetin and Gabapentin which are used during depression and epilepsy protect against aging.
