Randomized Controlled TrialWeChat-Based Education and Rehabilitation Program Improves Physical Performance and Quality of Life in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.
WeChat provides the chance for online caring program to improve physical recovery and quality of life (QoL) in patients with cardio/cerebral vascular diseases, especially in special period such as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spread time. This study intended to evaluate the influence of the WeChat-based education and rehabilitation program (WERP) on physical performance and QoL in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Totally, 180 patients with ACS after PCI were randomized to the WERP (N = 90) and control care (CC) (N = 90) groups, then received corresponding caring program for 3 months. ⋯ Finally, EQ-5D score at M1 (P = 0.022) and M3 (P = 0.023) was lower, while EQ-VAS score at M1 (P = 0.020), M2 (P = 0.013), and M3 (P = 0.039) was higher in WERP group than in CC group. Subgroup analyses further showed that patients with baseline SPPB score ≤ 9 benefited more from WERP. Conclusively, WERP could be an option to improve physical performance and QoL in patients with ACS after PCI.

Randomized Controlled TrialA Pilot Study of Whole-Brain Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound Therapy for Early Stage of Alzheimer's Disease (LIPUS-AD): A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial.
The prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been rapidly increasing worldwide. We have developed a novel angiogenic therapy with low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS), which is effective and safe in animal models of AD and vascular dementia. We performed two trials of LIPUS therapy for AD (mild cognitive impairment due to AD and mild AD); a roll-in open trial for safety, and a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled (RCT) trial for efficacy and safety. ⋯ When responders were defined as those with no worsening of ADAS-J cog scores at week 72, the prevalence was 50% (5/10) and 0% (0/5) in the LIPUS and placebo groups, respectively (P = 0.053). No adverse effects were noted. These results suggest that the LIPUS therapy is safe and tends to suppress cognitive impairment although a next pivotal trial with a large number of subjects is warranted.

Randomized Controlled TrialPretreatment with Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate May Improve Success Rates of Helicobacter pylori Eradication: A Prospective, Randomized, Controlled and Open-Label Study.
Effective Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication is a major public health concern; however, eradication failure rates with the standard triple therapy remain high. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness and tolerability of ranitidine bismuth citrate (RBC) pretreatment before standard triple therapy for H. pylori eradication. A prospective, randomized, controlled, and open-label clinical trial was conducted from June to December 2019. ⋯ Tolerability was excellent in both groups, recorded as 97.9% and 100% in the pretreatment and standard treatment groups, respectively. Compared with the standard triple regimen, RBC pretreatment for 2 weeks may achieve higher H. pylori eradication rates, with excellent safety and tolerability. However, this study necessitates further validation as it was discontinued early owing to the N-nitrosodimethylamine issues of ranitidine.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyHigh Body Mass Index Is Correlated with the Success of Vonoprazan-Based Second-Line Therapy for Helicobacter Pylori Infection.
Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is necessary for preventing peptic ulcers and stomach cancer. The potassium-competitive acid blocker vonoprazan is a gastric acid secretion inhibitor that improves the success rate of Hp eradication through its immediate and persistent inhibition of acid excretion. In Japan, first-line treatment involves a regimen in which vonoprazan is combined with amoxicillin and clarithromycin, while second-line treatment involves vonoprazan combined with amoxicillin and metronidazole. ⋯ ROC analysis revealed an area under the curve and BMI cutoff value of 0.796 and 23.8 kg/m2, respectively. The eradication success rate was higher in patients with high BMI than in those with low BMI (p = 0.007). Our findings indicate that higher BMI is correlated with the success of vonoprazan-based second-line therapy.

Randomized Controlled TrialVirtual-reality balance training with a video-game system improves dynamic balance in chronic stroke patients.
Stroke is one of the most serious healthcare problems and a major cause of impairment of cognition and physical functions. Virtual rehabilitation approaches to postural control have been used for enhancing functional recovery that may lead to a decrease in the risk of falling. In the present study, we investigated the effects of virtual reality balance training (VRBT) with a balance board game system on balance of chronic stroke patients. ⋯ There was greater improvement on BBS (4.00 vs. 2.81 scores) and TUG (-1.33 vs. -0.52 sec) in the VRBT group compared with the control group (P < 0.05), but not on static balance in both groups. In conclusion, we demonstrate a significant improvement in dynamic balance in chronic stroke patients with VRBT. VRBT is feasible and suitable for chronic stroke patients with balance deficit in clinical settings.
