Decremental responses in the repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) test in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients have been reported, although their possible diagnostic role has received little investigation. We investigated their diagnostic role in differentiation between ALS and cervical spondylotic amyotrophy (CSA), an important ALS mimic especially in Japan. ⋯ RNS is useful in differentiation between ALS and CSA.

To investigate the pattern of functional demarcation of hippocampal network and its relationship with memory performance in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE) with unilateral hippocampal sclerosis. ⋯ The findings may facilitate the characterization of mTLE associated with memory deficit.

The neurofibromatoses (NF) type 1 and 2 are hereditary tumor predisposition syndromes caused by germline mutations in the NF1 and NF2 tumor suppressor genes. In NF1 and 2, peripheral nerve tumors occur regularly. For further characterizing nerve ultrasound was performed in patients with NF1 and 2. ⋯ Ultrasound patterns of peripheral nerve pathologies are described for the first time in a large cohort of patients with NF1 and NF2. It is a suitable screening tool and enables targeted MRI analysis.

To describe the electrophysiological characteristics and pathophysiological significance of electrographic status epilepticus (ESE) after cardiac arrest and specifically compare patients with unequivocal ESE to patients with rhythmic or periodic borderline patterns defined as possible ESE. ⋯ A favourable outcome is seen infrequently in patients with ESE, regardless of using strict or liberal ESE definitions.

EEG synchronization measures are early outcome predictors in comatose patients after cardiac arrest.
Outcome prognostication in comatose patients after cardiac arrest (CA) remains a major challenge. Here we investigated the prognostic value of combinations of linear and non-linear bivariate EEG synchronization measures. ⋯ Quantitative methods might increase the prognostic yield of currently used multi-modal approaches.
