Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation in chronic migraine and medication overuse headache: A pilot double-blind randomized sham-controlled trial.
Little evidence is available on the role of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in patients affected by chronic migraine (CM) and medication overuse headache (MOH). We aim to investigate the effects of tDCS in patients with CM and MOH as well as its role on brain activity. ⋯ This study suggests a possible role for tDCS in the treatment of CM and MOH. The observed clinical improvement is coupled with a potentiation of EEG alpha rhythm.

Preserved somatosensory conduction in complete spinal cord injury: Discomplete SCI.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) disrupts the communication between brain and body parts innervated from below-injury spinal segments, but rarely results in complete anatomical transection of the spinal cord. The aim of this study was to investigate residual somatosensory conduction in clinically complete SCI, to corroborate the concept of sensory discomplete SCI. ⋯ Identifying patients with residual somatosensory connections might open the door for new rehabilitative and restorative strategies as well as inform research on SCI-related conditions such as neuropathic pain and spasticity.

In pursuit of a sensitive EEG functional connectivity outcome measure for clinical trials in Alzheimer's disease.
In clinical trials in Alzheimer's Disease (AD), an improvement of impaired functional connectivity (FC) could provide biological support for the potential efficacy of the drug. Electroencephalography (EEG) analysis of the SAPHIR-trial showed a treatment induced improvement of global relative theta power but not of FC measured by the phase lag index (PLI). We compared the PLI with the amplitude envelope correlation with leakage correction (AEC-c), a presumably more sensitive FC measure. ⋯ AEC-c may be a robust and sensitive FC measure for detecting treatment effects.

Time to epileptiform activity and EEG background recovery are independent predictors after cardiac arrest.
Investigate the temporal development of EEG and prognosis. ⋯ Patients with early background recovery combined with late appearance of epileptiform activity may have a good outcome.

Modulation of temporal summation threshold of the nociceptive withdrawal reflex by transcutaneous spinal direct current stimulation in humans.
Transcutaneous spinal direct current stimulation (tsDCS) modulates spinal cord pain pathways. The study is aimed to clarify the neurophysiology of the tsDCS-induced modulation of the spinal cord pain processing by evaluating the effect of the tsDCS on temporal summation threshold (TST) of the nociceptive withdrawal reflex (NWR). ⋯ The modulation of the temporal processing of nociceptive stimuli could be effective in treating clinical pain conditions in which pain is generated by spinal cord structures.
