The aim of this study was to identify neurophysiologic markers generated by primary motor and premotor cortex for laryngeal muscles, recorded from laryngeal muscle. ⋯ Described methodology can be used in preoperative mapping, and it is expected to facilitate surgical planning and intraoperative mapping, preserving these areas from injuries.

Review Meta Analysis
Does anodal transcranial direct current stimulation modulate sensory perception and pain? A meta-analysis study.
The primary aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effects of anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (a-tDCS) on sensory (STh) and pain thresholds (PTh) in healthy individuals and pain levels (PL) in patients with chronic pain. ⋯ Site of stimulation should have a differential effect over pain relief.

Focal nerve enlargement is a characteristic finding in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). We performed this study to assess the distribution of nerve enlargement through ultrasonographic examination of peripheral nerves and to correlate the ultrasonographic findings with clinical features. ⋯ Pattern analysis of nerve enlargement using ultrasonography is a supportive tool in the diagnosis of CIDP.

To investigate whether intraepidermal electrical stimulation (IES) can evaluate nociceptive Aδ- and C-fiber dysfunctions of an experimental model of small-fiber neuropathy (SFN) with transdermal lidocaine. ⋯ IES has advantages in terms of cost, convenience, and invasiveness. It may have potential for a clinical tool to elucidate the pathophysiology of patients with SFN, including the differences between Aδ and C fibers.

Progressive atrophy and loss of motor axons is a hallmark of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Limited sonographic data are available on potential detection of atrophy of peripheral nerves and nerve roots in ALS. ⋯ Sonographic evaluation of nerve roots and peripheral nerves may be a useful disease marker in ALS to confirm the diagnosis and to potentially monitor the disease progression.
