The observation of a voluntary movement executed by another person is associated with an alpha and beta EEG desynchronization over the motor cortex, thought to reflect activity from the human "mirror neuron" system. The aim of our work was to study the changes in local field potentials (LFP) recorded from the subthalamic nucleus (STN) and their relationship with cortical activity, during movement observation. ⋯ These changes suggest that the basal ganglia might be engaged by the activity of the human mirror system.

To determine whether low back pain (LBP) associates with altered postural stabilization and concomitant changes in cerebrocortical motor physiology. ⋯ These results support a theoretical model that altered central motor neurophysiology associates with LBP, thereby implying that rehabilitation strategies should address these neuromotor impairments.

To investigate the prognostic value of standard electroencephalogram (EEG) in predicting the improvement of the level of consciousness in patients suffering from severe disturbances of consciousness following coma caused by acute brain injuries. ⋯ This work may have implications for clinical care, rehabilitative programs and medical-legal decisions in patients with impaired consciousness states following coma due to acute brain injuries.

To describe morphologic and functional modifications of the ulnar nerve at the wrist in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) after carpal tunnel release (CTR). ⋯ In CTS, high pressure in the carpal tunnel may result in anatomical changes of ulnar nerve, thus causing functional impairment to the ulnar fibres. CTR appears to reverse some of this damage.

To examine the neuromodulatory effect of whole-hand mesh-glove (MG) stimulation on motor cortical pathways, we explored motor cortical excitability before and after suprathreshold whole-hand MG stimulation using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). ⋯ Present results prove the MG stimulation to be a promising tool in neurorehabilitation.
