ReviewMotor and sensory rehabilitation after lower limb amputation: state of art and perspective of change.
The rehabilitation of the amputated patient is based on a coordinated sequence of diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic procedures carried out by an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, that works globally on all patient problems. The objectives of the different phases of the rehabilitation treatment were reviewed. ⋯ Among these the psychological aspects, the alterations of all sensory inputs, the secondary alterations at the bone, articular and muscular level, pain of the residual limb and the phantom limb. Finally, the basic criteria to be used to choose the kind of prosthesis in relation to the characteristics and expectations of the amputated person, and the results of the recovery of the autonomy and walking ability, will be schematically described.

[Occupational injuries and lifestyle in construction working population workers: which interaction?].
Many factors of organizational, technical, social and human are involved in determining occupational injury. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how the characteristics of the human factor can influence the accident phenomenon. From records of the construction firms involved in the project "Protection of health on construction sites" promoted by CPT Bergamo and Occupational Medicine of Bergamo Hospital were extracted data on lifestyle of workers involved in occupational injuries in the period 2007-2011. The indicators of lifestyles used were the smoking status, alcohol consumption and drugs, body mass index (BMI), physical activity.

[Occupational exposure to sevoflurane in pediatric operating rooms: the multi-point sampling method for risk assessment].
Several studies have shown that occupational exposure to anesthetic gases might be higher during pediatric surgery, probably due to the increased use of inhalational induction techniques. Our study aims to assess the level of exposure to sevoflurane in two rooms of pediatric surgery, using multi-point sampling method for environmental monitoring. ⋯ Although the average of these concentrations has been rather low (1.32, SD +/- 1:55 ppm), the results obtained have documented a significant distribution kinetics difference inside the rooms as function of multiple factors among which there were the anesthetic technique used and the team involved. Therefore the method described allows to correctly analyze the spread of anesthetic gases and suggests a different risk stratification which may be dependent on the professional work.

[The network of health promoting companies (WHP) in the province of Bergamo].
To create, by 2012, a network of Promoting Health companies in the Province of Bergamo, with at least 10% of companies with over 90 employees (about 10,000 workers) adherent, and attending up to 15% by 2015. ⋯ The model seems to work well and in our opinion is extensible on a larger scale.

Novel tools for blood inflammatory markers detection in monitoring air pollution-induced cardio-respiratory symptoms.
There is strong epidemiological evidence that air pollution exposure (short- and long-term, i.e. < 24 hr to 3 weeks, and year/s) is related to exacerbation of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Data from toxicological and basic science/molecular studies, controlled animal and human exposures and human panel studies have demonstrated several mechanisms by which particle exposure may both trigger acute events as well as prompt the chronic development of cardiovascular diseases. These pollutant-mediated biological mechanisms are supporting the potential use of haematic (inflammation/coagulation/oxidative stress) markers of effects in cardio-respiratory diseases. Various examples from in vitro, in vivo and epidemiological investigations are reported, together with some novel technologies that should provide with new tools for research in these diseases and improve the knowledge about any linkage of local and systemic inflammation and clinical features of these diseases (in particular COPD), including lung function, exacerbations, disease progression, and mortality.
