Attitude and levels of awareness toward organ donation and transplantation among healthcare providers: A cross-sectional study.
End-stage organ damage is the major cause of death worldwide. The number of donors is low, and one of the challenging phases in organ donation is the availability of organ donors. There are many studies that suggest a strong correlation between knowledge and beliefs toward organ donation. ⋯ The overall level of knowledge is good (55.2%). The study showed 62.2% have participated in the organ donation program for their close relatives only. In conclusion, the level of perception and knowledge about organ donation among health-care providers was inadequate, although they showed positive attitudes toward this issue.

Case ReportsHyperkalemia mimicking brugada pattern in electrocardiogram: A rare case report from Nepal.
Hyperkalemia is one of the dangerous complications of renal impairment (acute kidney injury or chronic kidney disease). Hyperkalemia may present with the electrocardiogram (ECG) changes as nonspecific repolarization abnormalities. Here, we report a case of AKI with hyperkalemia and the Brugada pattern of ECG, which reverted to normal after effective management of hyperkalemia. ⋯ Patient was treated with 10% calcium gluconate, insulin and dextrose, salbutamol nebulization, and sodium polystyrene sulfonate till hemodialysis was initiated. Hyperkalemia and acidosis can manifest with the Brugada pattern in ECG. Thus, a careful evaluation of hyperkalemia and its treatment must be instituted in such an ECG pattern.

ReviewChanging epidemiology of acute kidney injury in pregnancy: A journey of four decades from a developing country.
The incidence of acute kidney injury in pregnancy (P-AKI) has markedly decreased over the last three decades in India, particularly due to decreased incidence of postabortion AKI. However, P-AKI still accounts for 3%-5% of cases of total AKI. Postabortion sepsis has decreased to between 0.9% and 1.5% in 2014 from 9.4% in 1980-1990 in the new millennium. ⋯ Despite decreasing incidence of P-AKI, fetal mortality remained high and unchanged. However, maternal mortality has decreased to 5% from initial high mortality of 20%-25%. The incidence and severity of renal cortical necrosis have significantly decreased at our center.

Case ReportsCyclophosphamide-induced melanonychia in a patient with steroid dependent nephrotic syndrome: A rare presentation.
Melanonychia is described as a brown to black pigmentation of nail, due to stimulation and hyperplasia of nail matrix. Various systemic disorders, trauma, inflammatory disorders, fungal infections, drugs, benign melanocytic hyperplasia, etc., are responsible for this condition, and most of them are benign. ⋯ We report a 38-year-old female, a known case of steroid dependent nephrotic syndrome, who developed melanonychia on starting treatment with cyclophosphamide. It is a benign condition, which resolves on discontinuation of the drug.

Case ReportsAdenine phosphoribosyltransferase deficiency and 2, 8-dihydroxyadenine renal stones: A preventable cause of pediatric renal stones and kidney disease.
Adenine phosphoribosyltransferase deficiency is an inherited condition presenting from infancy to late adulthood. The common features are recurrent kidney and urinary tract stones and obstructive symptoms. ⋯ Here, we report the case of an eight-month-old baby girl who presented with obstructive acute kidney injury secondary to calculi which was treated with surgical removal of stone. The analysis of the calculi revealed 2, 8-DHA crystals.
