The incidence of invasive treatment of rib fracture has increased significantly over the last decade however the evidence of improved patient outcomes to support this is lacking. A systematic review was performed to identify patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) used in the assessment of outcomes following chest wall injury. The quality of evidence for the psychometric properties of the identified PROMs was graded using the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) methodology. ⋯ The lack of validated outcome measures for rib fracture patients is a significant limitation of the current literature. Further studies are needed to provide validated outcome measures to ensure accuracy of the reported results and conclusions. As interventions for rib fractures have become more common in both research and clinical practice this has become an urgent priority.

Preoperative frailty is associated with progression of postoperative cardiac rehabilitation in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery.
Preoperative frailty affects the progression of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) after cardiovascular surgery. Different frailty assessment measures are available. However, it remains unclear which tool most likely predicts the progress of CR. Our aim was to evaluate preoperative frailty using different methods and to identify the predictors in the progress of postoperative CR. ⋯ Among the various tools for assessing frailty, the Kaigo-Yobo Check-List was most likely to predict the progress of postoperative CR after elective cardiovascular surgery.

The use of reliable pain assessment measures is essential for scoring and managing pain in infants. The Premature Infant Pain Profile (PIPP) is reliable and valid and has been recently revised. To adapt and validate the PIPP-R into Portuguese and to evaluate its psychometric properties are required to ensure maintenance of meaning and content. ⋯ The Premature Infant Pain Profile-Revised was culturally adapted into Brazilian Portuguese. Appropriate content validity index was determined. Evidence of construct validity was also found. Future studies are warranted to explore the feasibility and other psychometric properties of using the Premature Infant Pain Profile-Revised translated and adapted into Brazilian Portuguese in the clinical setting.

External Validation of Two Models to Predict Delirium in Critically Ill Adults Using Either the Confusion Assessment Method-ICU or the Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist for Delirium Assessment.
To externally validate two delirium prediction models (early prediction model for ICU delirium and recalibrated prediction model for ICU delirium) using either the Confusion Assessment Method-ICU or the Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist for delirium assessment. ⋯ Both the early prediction model for ICU delirium and recalibrated prediction model for ICU delirium are externally validated using either the Confusion Assessment Method-ICU or the Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist for delirium assessment. Per delirium prediction model, both assessment tools showed a similar moderate-to-good statistical performance. These results support the use of either the early prediction model for ICU delirium or recalibrated prediction model for ICU delirium in ICUs around the world regardless of whether delirium is evaluated with the Confusion Assessment Method-ICU or Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist.
