To develop appropriate content for high-stakes simulation-based assessments of operative competence in general surgery training through consensus. ⋯ This study describes a national needs assessment approach to content generation for simulation-based assessments of operative competence in general surgery using Delphi consensus methodology. The prioritized procedural lists generated by this study can be used to further develop operative skill assessments for use in high-stakes scenarios, such as trainee progression, entrustment, and end-of-training certification, before subsequent validity testing.

Target selection during Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) in cases of tumor-related trigeminal neuralgia is always debatable. We analyzed the correlation of regression of tumor size and degree of release of the nerve with long-term pain control. ⋯ Tumor volume reduction after GKRS may be associated with good pain control in tumor-related trigeminal neuralgia. Further, this allows visualization of additional segment of nerve that can be targeted in a second session for treating recurrent or failed cases.

Prehabilitation aims to optimise patients' physical and psychological status before treatment. The types of outcomes measured to assess the impact of prehabilitation interventions vary across clinical research and service evaluation, limiting the ability to compare between studies and services and to pool data. An international workshop involving academic and clinical experts in cancer prehabilitation was convened in May 2022 at Sheffield Hallam University's Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, England. The workshop substantiated calls for a core outcome set to advance knowledge and understanding of best practice in cancer prehabilitation and to develop national and international databases to assess outcomes at a population level.

Intraoperative Prophylaxis with Palonosetron for Postoperative Nausea and/or Vomiting in Adults Undergoing Cardiothoracic Surgery Under General Anesthesia: A Single-Center Retrospective Study.
This study assessed the efficacy of palonosetron, alone or with dexamethasone, in reducing postoperative nausea and/or vomiting (PONV) and its impact on hospitalization duration in patients who undergo adult cardiothoracic surgery (CTS) under general anesthesia. ⋯ This single-center retrospective study underscored palonosetron's efficacy, alone or combined with dexamethasone, in managing PONV among adult patients who undergo CTS. These findings contribute to evolving antiemetic strategies in cardiothoracic surgery, potentially impacting patient outcomes and satisfaction positively.

Efficacy, Safety, and Complications of Pigtail Thoracostomy for the Treatment of Pediatric Pleuropneumonia.
Pigtail thoracostomy (PT) has become the mainstay technique for the drainage of pediatric pleuropneumonic effusions (PLPe). However, its efficacy and complication profile has been questioned when compared with video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery and larger bore traditional tube thoracostomy. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy, safety, and complications associated with PT. ⋯ Our findings suggest that PT drainage offers a safe and highly effective option for managing PLPe and carries a very low failure rate.
