Evaluation of HBV, HCV, and HIV seroprevalence in patients with plasma cell disorders.
Hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) viruses are hepatotropic and lymphotropic viruses that can proliferate either in lymphocytes and monocytes or hepatocytes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the seroprevalence of HBV, HCV, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in patients with plasma cell disorders. We also aimed to compare patients with plasma cell disorders and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in terms of HBV, HCV, and HIV seropositivity. ⋯ There was also a statistically significant relationship between the disease groups in terms of hepatitis B e antigen positivity (P = .001). We found that hepatitis B surface antigen positivity rate in CLL patients was higher than in patients with plasma cell disorders. Seroprevalence of HBV, HCV, and HIV was found to be very low in patients with plasma cell disorders.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and Kimura's disease (KD) which is quite rare are both chronic inflammatory diseases. Recently we encountered a patient who suffered from KD and AS, and some of his family members also suffer from AS. We, therefore, investigated this unique case and conducted the family-based whole exome sequencing to explore the possible genetic alterations. ⋯ Our experience suggests that low dose glucocorticoid, cyclosporine and Etanercept could be beneficial for the patient with KD and AS. The mutation of ARPC1B gene in this case, which is associated with immunologic disturbance, may increase the susceptibility of KD.

Klatskin tumor diagnosed concurrently with IgG4 related sclerosing cholangitis: A case report.
IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a systemic disease that can involve various organs and is characterized by the infiltrations of IgG4-positive plasma cells and lymphocytes, fibrosis, and elevated serum IgG4 levels. IgG4-related sclerosing cholangitis (IgG4-RSC) is a subtype of IgG4-RD. No certain relationship between IgG4-RSC and cholangiocarcinoma has been established as yet, and there have been few reports of the simultaneous diagnosis of IgG4-RSC and cholangiocarcinoma. ⋯ IgG4-RSC and cholangiocarcinoma are easily confused, but their treatments are quite different, and thus, care must be taken during diagnosis. Furthermore, these 2 diseases may co-exist. Therefore, even if IgG4-RSC is diagnosed first, the possibility of accompanying cholangiocarcinoma should be thoroughly investigated.

Dermatomyositis is a common connective tissue disease. The occurrence and development of dermatomyositis is a result of multiple factors, but its exact pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. Here, we used biological information method to explore and predict the major disease related genes of dermatomyositis and to find the underlying pathogenic molecular mechanism. ⋯ KEGG pathway analysis showed that these DEGs were mainly involved in the toll-like receptor signaling pathway, cytosolic DNA-sensing pathway, RIG-I-like receptor signaling pathway, complement and coagulation cascades, arginine and proline metabolism, phagosome signaling pathway. The following 13 closely related genes, XAF1, NT5E, UGCG, GBP2, TLR3, DDX58, STAT1, GBP1, PLSCR1, OAS3, SP100, IGK, and RSAD2, were key nodes from the protein-protein interaction network. This research suggests that exploring for DEGs and pathways in dermatomyositis using integrated bioinformatics methods could help us realize the molecular mechanism underlying the development of dermatomyositis, be of actual implication for the early detection and prophylaxis of dermatomyositis and afford reliable goals for the curing of dermatomyositis.

Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare cerebrovascular condition, which mainly manifests as headaches, seizures, and focal neurological deficits. JAK2 mutation in myeloproliferative diseases increases the risk of CVT. ⋯ Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of the JAK2 V617F mutation in CVT patients without known causes or risk factors.
