Interpretation of the morphology and characteristics of soft tissues, such as paravertebral muscles and fat, has always been a "relative blind spot" in the spine. The imaging features of the non-bony structures of the spine have been studied and reinterpreted, and changes in the non-bony structure are associated with spinal disease. ⋯ Currently, there is no summary of studies on fat and muscle in the spinal region. Given this, within the context of recent research trends, this article provides a synthesis of research on adipose and muscle tissue in the spine, discusses advances in the study of the imaging manifestations of these structures in spinal disorders, and expands the perspectives.

Rheumatoid arthritis is the most prevalent systemic autoimmune disease among the rheumatic inflammatory musculoskeletal diseases. Currently, there is no reliable evidence regarding the comparisons of anti-rheumatic effects between leflunomide and Janus kinase inhibitors. We performed a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the efficacy and safety of Janus kinase inhibitors and leflunomide in rheumatoid arthritis. ⋯ This systematic review will provide evidence to judge whether Janus kinase inhibitors is superior to leflunomide in patients with in rheumatoid arthritis.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is a reversible syndrome clinically manifested by significant variations in neuroimaging. Early treatment is indispensable to achieve the reversibility, which requires the punctual alleviation of its inducing factors. ⋯ For patients diagnosed as PRES, the punctual identification of cause should be performed, so as to diagnose and correct the cause and primary disease as soon as possible, accompanied with the dynamical observation of the relevant indicators for suspected patients to avoid systemic organ failure.

Lumbar spinal stenosis is a common orthopedic disease in clinical practice at present. Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) refers to the phenomenon of impaired memory. However, whether long noncoding RNA (LncRNA) GAS5 contributes to the mechanism of cognitive function in undergoing lumbar spinal canal decompression remains unknown. ⋯ MiR-137 suppressed TCF4 protein expression in vitro model. Transcription factor TCF4 activates the expression of bHLH. Taking together, this experiment provide the first experimental and clinical evidence that LncRNA GAS5/miR-137 promoted anesthesia-induced cognitive function to increase inflammatory bodies in patients undergoing lumbar spinal canal decompression, suggesting it may be a biomarker of POCD and a potential therapeutic target for POCD.

Forkhead transcription factor O1 (FOXO1) methylation is associated with inflammation. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is characterized with increased inflammatory markers such as uric acid, hemogram indices, C-reactive protein derived markers, omentin and neuregulin. This study aimed to investigate the effect of DNA methylation in FOXO1 gene promoter, blood glucose and lipids in the process of type 2 DKD. ⋯ The levels of low-density lipoprotein were statistically lower in preliminary diabetes mellitus and DKD groups than control group (all P value < .02). Along with the progress of DKD, a down trend was observed in the total methylation rate of FOXO1 gene (P = .025), which contains 5 CpG sites (1021, +1193) in the promoter. Hypomethylation in the promoter of FOXO1 gene, hyperglycemia and low level of serum lipid might be associated with the pathogenesis of type 2 DKD.
