[The role of multimodal postoperative analgesia after primary hip arthroplasty].
Introduction: Due to the increasing number of arthroplasties, the number of post-operative hospital days was reduced and the rate of rehabilitation accelerated. For this, proper postoperative analgesia is essential and the multimodal pain relief is an excellent tool. Aim: The aim of our study was to compare postoperative functional results, postoperative pain levels, and opioid analgesic needs of patients who received conventional and novel analgesic treatments. ⋯ In addition, the patients in this group stayed in the hospital for a significantly shorter time after surgery. Conclusions: Based on our experience, multimodal pain relief in one-sided primary hip joint arthroplasty significantly reduced the patients' postoperative subjective pain sensation and pain killer consumptions. Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of the Post-Total Knee Arthroplasty Analgesic Effect of Intraoperative Periarticular Injection of Different Analgesics.
To compare post-TKA (total knee arthroplasty) analgesic effect of periarticular injection of different analgesics during surgery. ⋯ Compared with periarticular injection of compound analgesics of bupivacaine, methylprednisolone, adrenaline, morphine and normal saline during surgery, periarticular injection of compound analgesics of ropivacaine, ketorolac, adrenaline, morphine and normal saline during surgery can alleviate post-TKA pain more effectively, improve early ROM of joint knee after surgery, increase rehabilitation effect of knee joint.

About 50% of patients with cancer who have undergone surgery suffer from cancer-related pain (CP). The use of opioids for postoperative pain management presents the potential for overdose, especially among these patients. ⋯ CP is an independent risk factor for opioid overdose, increased length of stay, and increased total hospital charges.

Postoperative opioid cessation rates based on preoperative opioid use: analysis of common orthopaedic procedures.
The aim of this study was to characterize the relationship between pre- and postoperative opioid use among patients undergoing common elective orthopaedic procedures. ⋯ Chronic preoperative opioid use increases the risk of chronic postoperative use, but an opioid-free period before surgery decreases this risk compared with continuous preoperative use Cite this article: Bone Joint J 2019;101-B:1570-1577.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Randomized controlled trial comparing bilateral superficial cervical plexus block and local wound infiltration for pain control in thyroid surgery.
Multiple approaches have been devised for pain control in patients undergoing thyroid surgery, with local wound infiltration (LWI) of analgesia and bilateral superficial cervical plexus block (BSCPB) among the popular choices cited. However, the results comparing these methods had either been contradictory or equivocal. This study was carried out to assess the efficacy of BSCPB in comparison to LWI in reducing post-operative pain, as well as any additional opioid requirement in the first 24 h after thyroid surgery. ⋯ LWI remains the simplest, safest and most economical method of pain management. While BSCPB is comparable, it does however, come with potential regional block related complications.
