Effectiveness of walking versus mind-body therapies in chronic low back pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis of recent randomized controlled trials.
Walking and mind-body therapies (MBTs) are commonly recommended to relieve pain and improve function in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of walking and MBTs in CLBP. ⋯ MBTs, especially yoga, seem to be more effective in the short term, and walking seems to be more effective in the intermediate term, for the relief of pain and activity limitation in patients with CLBP. A combination of walking and MBTs fits the biopsychosocial model and might be valuable therapy for CLBP throughout follow-up due to combined effects.

Developing theory-informed knowledge translation strategies to facilitate the use of patient-reported outcome measures in interdisciplinary low back pain clinical practices in Quebec: mixed methods study.
There is a growing interest among healthcare providers (HCPs) to use Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in clinical care. PROMs can help improve patient-care provider communication and may be used to inform the need for interdisciplinary care for Low Back Pain (LBP). However, PROM implementation to support clinical decision-making is complex and requires knowledge translation (KT) interventions that will overcome barriers to using PROMs in interdisciplinary clinical settings. ⋯ The routine use of PROMs in clinical practice may optimize the quality of LBP care and improve patients' outcomes. The proposed multi-component KT intervention is expected to be an effective strategy to increase HCPs' ability to integrate PROMs into clinical decision-making and to engage patients in their care.

The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the cluneal nerves, present a summary of pain syndromes secondary to clunealgia, and evaluate current literature for diagnostic and treatment modalities. ⋯ Multiple trials and studies have reported success with numerous modalities ranging from nerve blocks, neuroablation, and even peripheral neuromodulation with varying degrees of clinical benefit. Cluneal nerve entrapment or chronic impingement can cause buttock pain or referred pain to nearby areas including the lower back, pelvic area, or even the lower extremities. Clunealgias and associated pain syndromes can often be challenging to diagnose and differentiate. An appreciation of the pathophysiology of clunealgias can assist with patient selection for interventional pain strategies targeted towards the cluneal nerves, including nerve blocks, neuroablation, and peripheral neuromodulation. More research is needed to better delineate the efficacy of these procedures for clunealgias.

ReviewNeurosurgical Evaluation for Patients with Chronic Lower Back Pain.
Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a major cause of disability in the USA, and it affects approximately 1 in 4 Americans. CLBP patients are commonly referred to or seek out neurosurgical evaluations and opinions for treatment and management. ⋯ Literature shows that only a minority of patients with CLBP may benefit from a surgical procedure. These patients that present to clinic often have been ailing for a considerable amount of time and are eager for effective treatment to alleviate pain. However, determining if a patient with CLBP is a surgical candidate is predicated upon having no success of pain relief with non-operative management. Patients with CLBP require thorough and adequate imaging, clinical exam, and diagnostic evaluation. When adequate non-operative management was provided, and proven fruitless, the patient may be considered an operative candidate. In this manuscript, a framework is presented for workup and evaluation of patients with CLBP.
