Development and Persistence of Suspected Neuropathic Pain After Total Knee Arthroplasty in Individuals With Osteoarthritis.
Despite the effectiveness of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for osteoarthritis (OA), up to 20% will report knee pain 1 year after surgery. One possible reason is the development of neuropathic pain before or after TKA. ⋯ II.

Usefulness of the pain sensitivity questionnaire to discriminate the pain behaviour of chronic pain patients.
Chronic pain is no longer an effective warning system, but a syndrome with co-morbidities and many causes, needing a careful evaluation. Questions remain about the pain behaviour of chronic pain patients compared with patients with acute pain, or healthy subjects that we investigated. ⋯ P2014/134.

Impact of Cigarette Smoking Status on Pain Intensity Among Veterans With and Without Hepatitis C.
Chronic pain is a significant problem in patients living with hepatitis C virus (HCV). Tobacco smoking is an independent risk factor for high pain intensity among veterans. This study aims to examine the independent associations with smoking and HCV on pain intensity, as well as the interaction of smoking and HCV on the association with pain intensity. ⋯ We found that current smoking is more strongly linked to pain intensity among veterans with HCV. Further investigations are needed to explore the impact of smoking status on pain and to promote smoking cessation and pain management in veterans with HCV.

Psychometric Properties of the Photograph Series of Daily Activities-Short Electronic Version (PHODA-SeV) in Patients With Chronic Low Back Pain.
Background The Photograph Series of Daily Activities-short electronic version (PHODA-SeV) assesses perceived harmfulness of daily activities in patients with low back pain (LBP). Although there is some evidence that the PHODA-SeV is a reliable and valid tool, its psychometric properties have not been fully investigated. Objectives To investigate the test-retest reliability, measurement error, interpretability, construct validity, and internal and external responsiveness of the PHODA-SeV in patients with chronic LBP. ⋯ This tool, however, failed to identify those patients who did or did not improve, according to other pain-related fear measures.
