Patients with chronic pain conditions such as neuropathic pain frequently experience delays in diagnosis and treatment. Ideally, all patients should be treated in a timely manner, but in those patients with more established disease it is important to know that approved treatments remain effective. ⋯ Pregabalin significantly improves pain irrespective of the length of time since onset of neuropathic pain.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffectiveness of ShotBlocker for Immunization Pain in Full-Term Neonates: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Nonpharmacologic strategies exist to manage procedural pain in healthy newborn infants. The aim of this prospective randomized controlled trial (RCT) was to examine the efficacy of ShotBlocker for managing injection pain associated with the first intramuscular hepatitis B vaccine given to healthy full-term neonates. This randomized controlled trial study was conducted in a private university hospital in Istanbul, Turkey, in which 100 healthy term neonates were randomly assigned to either a ShotBlocker (n = 50) or control group (n = 50). ⋯ The pain scores of the neonates during (ShotBlocker group: 1.64 ± 0.80; control group: 2.96 ± 0.73) and after (ShotBlocker group: 0.74 ± 0.66; control group: 1.42 ± 0.76) the injection procedure were lower in the ShotBlocker group than in the control group (P = .000). The postinjection heart rate in the infants in the ShotBlocker group (145.02 ± 13.50) was found to be lower than in those for whom ShotBlocker was not used (150.24 ± 13.36) (P = .05). The use of ShotBlocker during the hepatitis B vaccine in term neonates is effective in reducing the acute pain.

Korean Version of the painDETECT Questionnaire: A Study for Cultural Adaptation and Validation.
The purpose of this study was to adapt the painDETECT Questionnaire (PD-Q) into a Korean version (KPD-Q) and validate it. ⋯ The KPD-Q showed good psychometric and discriminant features for assessing the neuropathic component in chronic pain patients. We hope that this newly validated KPD-Q will be recognized in Korea as a credible tool for detection of NeP and thus may be used in further international clinical research.

[Experience in measuring the quality of treatment in interventional pain therapy : The Activity Index on a touchscreen PC].
There is a growing interest in patient-related outcome measurement. In this field questionnaires on touch screens are becoming more common. This study was designed to identify problems in usability and feasibility of a web-based questionnaire. ⋯ This web-based questionnaire is the first of its kind to be evaluated in everyday practice of interventional pain therapy for lumbar back pain. The vast majority of the patients were able to efficiently complete the questionnaire. The questionnaire was highly acceptable to patients, nurses and doctors. We found some usability problems but mainly in the older age group.
