Overview of Patients with Hemophilia in China: Demographics, Diseases, Treatment, and Health Status.
In China, there were over 65,000 hemophilia patients according to estimations requiring overall description. However, former Chinese studies related to hemophilia were based on data of relatively small sample size from single-center or selected multi-centers in specific areas. ⋯ Our findings suggest the urgency for promoting hemophilia care and improving the social adaptation of hemophilia patients in China.

Intestinal homeostasis is a crucial factor for complication-free short- and long-term postoperative recovery. The brush border enzyme intestinal alkaline phosphatase (IAP) is an important regulator of gut barrier function and intestinal homeostasis and prevents endotoxemia by detoxifying lipopolysaccharides (LPSs). As IAP is predominantly secreted by enterocytes in the duodenum, we hypothesized that pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) leads to a significantly stronger decrease in IAP than other major abdominal surgery. ⋯ Based upon the functional roles for IAP, supplementation with exogenous IAP might be a new treatment option to improve short- and long-term outcome after PD.

This study investigated how non-O blood groups relate to thrombus burden (TB) and prognosis in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients, aiming to shed light on their association with thrombotic complications in cardiovascular diseases. ⋯ This study emphasizes the significance of the ABO blood group system in STEMI outcomes, associating non-O blood groups with higher TB and poorer clinical outcomes. While proposing personalized treatment strategies based on blood group status to improve reperfusion interventions and outcomes, additional trials are needed to comprehensively evaluate their impact.
