Multicenter Study Observational StudyEpidemiologic features and outcomes associated with caustic ingestion among adults admitted in intensive care unit from 2013 to 2019: a French national observational study.
Caustic ingestion is a potential life-threatening condition associated with high morbidity and mortality. Data on patients admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for severe caustic ingestion are lacking. We aimed to describing epidemiological features and outcomes of patients admitted to ICU for caustic ingestion in France. ⋯ ICU admission for severe caustic ingestion is associated with 9.8% mortality and 74% complications. Age > 40 years and SAPS 2 score were independently associated with mortality.

Most children in the United States present to community hospitals for emergency department (ED) care. Those who are acutely ill and require critical care are stabilized and transferred to a tertiary pediatric hospital with intensive care capabilities. During the fall of 2022 "tripledemic," with a marked increase in viral burden, there was a nationwide surge in pediatric ED patient volume. ⋯ To combat these challenges, the pediatric ED leadership applied a disaster management framework based on the 4 S's of space, staff, stuff, and structure. We worked collaboratively with general emergency medicine leadership, nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, local clinicians, our regional health care coalition, and emergency medical services (EMS) to create and implement the pediatric surge strategy. Here, we present the disaster framework strategy, the interventions employed, and the barriers and facilitators for implementation in our community hospital setting, which could be applied to other community hospital facing similar challenges.

Multicenter StudyHealthcare Burden and Resource Utilization After Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: A Secondary Analysis of the Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Study.
To describe family healthcare burden and health resource utilization in pediatric survivors of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) at 3 and 9 months. ⋯ Pediatric ARDS survivors report high rates of healthcare burden and health resource utilization at 3- and 9-month post-ARDS. Future studies should assess the impact of improved care coordination to simplify care (e.g., medication management) and improve family burden.

ReviewMachine learning in the prediction and detection of new-onset atrial fibrillation in ICU: a systematic review.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) stands as the predominant arrhythmia observed in ICU patients. Nevertheless, the absence of a swift and precise method for prediction and detection poses a challenge. This study aims to provide a comprehensive literature review on the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms for predicting and detecting new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) in ICU-treated patients. ⋯ Notably, CatBoost exhibited superior performance in NOAF prediction, while the support vector machine excelled in NOAF detection. Machine learning algorithms emerge as promising tools for predicting and detecting NOAF in ICU patients. The incorporation of these algorithms in clinical practice has the potential to enhance decision-making and the overall management of NOAF in ICU settings.
