Late recognition of in-hospital deterioration is a source of preventable harm. Emergency transfers (ET), when hospitalized patients require intensive care unit (ICU) interventions within 1 h of ICU transfer, are a proximal measure of late recognition associated with increased mortality and length of stay (LOS). ⋯ MOID are common in ETs and are associated with increased mortality risk and posttransfer LOS. Diagnostic improvement strategies should be leveraged to support earlier recognition of clinical deterioration.

Primary Intensivists and Nurses for Long-Stay Patients: A Survey of Practices and Perceptions at Academic PICUs.
To determine the prevalence of the utilization of primary intensivists and primary nurses for long-stay patients in large, academic PICU and ascertain how these practices are operationalized and perceived. ⋯ Primary practices are potential strategies to augment rotating PICU care models and better serve the needs of long-stay and other patients. These practices are being utilized to varying extents and with some operationalization uniformity at large, academic PICUs.

Newborns show a series of behavioral and physiological reactions to painful stimuli. ⋯ It is concluded that as GA and BW increase, so do the pain responses of the infant, which showed that the pain thresholds of term-preterm infants are different, and decrease as GA and BW increase.

Communication is vital to facilitate patient and family-centred care (PFCC) and to build trusting relationships between intensive care unit (ICU) health care providers, the patient, and their loved ones in the ICU. The focus of this investigation was to identify, define, and refine key moments of communication, connection, and relationship building in the ICU through a lens of Equity, Diversity, Decolonization, and Inclusion (EDDI) to encourage meaningful communication and development of trusting relationships. ⋯ Our findings highlight that diverse intersectional identities impact communication moments and relationship milestones during an ICU journey. To fully embrace a paradigm of PFCC, consideration should be given to creating an affirming and safe space for patients and their loved ones in the ICU.

Relationship Between the Coma Scores and Hemogram Parameters Measured by New-generation Devices.
To investigate the relationship between the coma scores-Glasgow coma scale (GCS), Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA), and Acute Physiological and Chronic Health Assessment (APACHE-II)-in intensive care unit (ICU) patients and the percentage of macrocytosis (%MAC), immature granulocyte (IG), cellular haemoglobin concentration (cHGB), nucleated red blood cell (NRBC), nucleated red cell/ white cell ratio (NR/W), hyperchromic ratio (%HPR), and platelet distribution width (PDW) values. ⋯ ICU, Hyper, Coma, Sofa, Apache.
