The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) infection has taken the world by storm within a few months. Evidence has suggested that patients with electrolyte imbalances at baseline may have a longer duration of hospital stay. We aimed to determine the factors associated with hyponatremia on admission in COVID-19 patients and its impact on the length of stay. ⋯ Moreover, COVID-19-positive patients suffering from CKD had a higher risk of developing hyponatremia (OR = 2.3, 95% CI: 1.1-5.6). The risk of hyponatremia among COVID-19-positive patients is statistically higher in patients with 1 comorbidity (OR = 1.9, 95%CI: 1.3-3.4). Hyponatremia on admission can be used to forecast the length of hospital stay and the severity of illness in COVID-19 patients.

Given the lingering threat of COVID infection, questions are being raised if coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine needs annual or regular boosters to maintain high levels of immunity against both the original virus and variants. This study was designed to evaluate the knowledge, acceptance, motivators and barriers of the booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine among the dental patients of District Lucknow, India. A total of 297 respondents were selected by a convenience sampling method in this cross-sectional study from various dental clinics. ⋯ Nearly 18.2% of respondents had hesitation about booster dose and less than one third of the respondents trusted a government source for information about booster dose of COVID vaccine. Nearly 36 % did not know that the booster dose of COVID vaccine is available at health centers. Dental health professionals and policymakers should implement and support strategies to ensure people are vaccinated for COVID-19 booster doses.

The presence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) in wastewater has been proposed as a sentinel surveillance epidemiological tool for detection of infectious disease at a community level and as a complementary approach to syndromic surveillance of infectious disease outbreaks. We have designed a study to test the presence and quantity of SARS-CoV2, the virus responsible for COVID19, in the wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) of the U.S. Air Force Academy. ⋯ Together with ongoing syndromic surveillance data, this proof-of-concept study seeks to determine whether early detection of SARS-CoV2 in a closed system WWTF correlates to changes in community and clinically reported COVID19. The well-documented population served by the geographically discrete WWTF at the U.S. Air Force Academy may serve to better elucidate the adjunctive role of wastewater testing in a comprehensive surveillance system. These results may be of particular interest to the DoD and local commanders given the WWTFs under their immediate control and the information that these studies may provide in support of operational readiness through early detection of disease outbreaks.

To explore the potential mechanism of Gegen Qinlian decoction (GGQL) in the treatment of COVID-19 comorbid with diabetes mellitus (DM) through network pharmacology and molecular docking, and to provide theoretical guidance for clinical transformation research. Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform was used to screen the active compounds and targets of GGQL, the targets of COVID-19 comorbid with DM were searched based on Genecards database. Protein-protein interaction network was constructed using String data platform for the intersection of compounds and disease targets, the Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis of the intersection targets was performed using DAVID database. ⋯ GGQL might affect diverse signaling pathways related to the pathogenesis of coronavirus disease - COVID-19, AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, IL-17 signaling pathway, human cytomegalovirus infection and Th17 cell differentiation. Meanwhile, molecular docking showed that the selected GGQL core active components had strong binding activity with the key targets. This study revealed that GGQL play a role in the treatment of COVID-19 comorbid with DM through multi-component, multi-target and multi-pathway mode of action, which provided good theoretical basis for further verification research.
