Review[Polytrauma care in air rescue in times of the COVID-19 pandemic: impact and development of case numbers].
Changes in patient care occurred as a result of the SARS-CoV‑2 virus, and both intrahospital and prehospital care were profoundly affected. Public shutdowns during lockdown periods were intended to prevent overstretching existing resources, resulting in noticeable changes in medical care for both elective treatments and emergency medicine. This study now considered the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic on air ambulance services at a central air ambulance site in 2020 compared to the previous 2 years. ⋯ During the COVID-19 study period, a decrease in the number of deployments and aborted deployments was observed. However, no significant differences in deployment and injury characteristics were observed for trauma-related deployments. These results highlight the importance of air ambulance services to ensure patient care even during pandemic periods.

Background: Short and long-term sequelae after admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are to be expected, which makes multidisciplinary care key in the support of physical and cognitive recovery. Objective: To describe, from a multidisciplinary perspective, the sequelae one month after hospital discharge among patients who required ICU admission for severe COVID-19 pneumonia. Design: Prospective cohort study. ⋯ Finally, 50% of patients reported moderate limitation in the EQ-5D, with a mean score of 60.62 points (SD 20.15) in perceived quality of life. Conclusions: Our findings support the need for a multidisciplinary and comprehensive evaluation of patients after ICU admission for COVID-19 because of the wide range of sequelae, which also mean that these patients need a long-term follow-up. Impact on clinical rehabilitation: This study provides data supporting the key role of rehabilitation during the follow-up of severe patients, thus facilitating their reintegration in society and a suitable adaptation to daily living.

To evaluate inactivated CoronaVac prime vaccination, antibody decay, booster dose, and safety in ANCA-Associated Vasculitis (AAV) patients. ⋯ This study provides novel data on the excellent safety and moderate immunogenicity of CoronaVac in AAV patients. A six-month mild antibody waning was observed with a good response to the booster dose, although levels remained lower than CG (CoronavRheum-NCT04754698).

[Early use of tocilizumab in hospitalized patients with severe and critical COVID-19 in the Province of Buenos Aires: a multicentric study].
Tocilizumab (TCZ), an IL-6 receptor antagonist monoclonal antibody is warranted in severe and critically-ill COVID-19 patients. The objective was to evaluate 28-day mortality of patients with severe or critical COVID-19 treated with early vs delayed TCZ. ⋯ This study supports the early use of TCZ in patients with severe or critical COVID-19.

Objectives: There are currently no appropriate markers and target for prophylaxis against COVID-19-related thrombosis, especially in the not-severe cases. We tested the hypothesis that inflammation is a suitable marker and target for prophylaxis against COVID-19-related thrombosis. Methods: Data of all 32 COVID-19 patients admitted to Saitama Medical Center between January 1 and March 30, 2021, were analyzed. ⋯ Extremely low levels of TAT, PIC, and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) were recorded in the liver transplant patient treated with immunosuppressants. The TAT, PIC, and PAI-1 levels were deemed outliers. Conclusions: Inflammation is a potentially suitable marker and target for prophylaxis against COVID-19-related thrombosis.
