The effect of ultrasound-guided acupotomy and Juanbi decoction on lumbar disc herniation: A randomized controlled trial.
Acupotomy as well as Juanbi decoction has been used in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. However, there is no study on ultrasound-guided acupotomy combined with Juanbi decoction in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. ⋯ Acupotomy aided by ultrasound combined with Juanbi Decoction significantly relieves lumbar pain and can improve lumbar function in patients with LDH, and the clinical efficacy lasts for about 6 months.

Survival improvement in cystic fibrosis (CF) is associated with more frequent long-term complications, including CF related bone disease (CFBD). Impact of CFBD on global health outcome remains poorly described. We aimed to assess the relationship between low bone mineral density (BMD) and spinal pain, disability, and quality of life in CF adult patients. ⋯ Low BMD was not associated with spinal pain, disability and quality of life. Low BMD is frequent in CF, affecting 1-quarter of adult patients. No significant association was found between low BMD and spinal pain, disability or quality of life.

Bone cancer pain (BCP) is a pervasive clinical symptom which impairs the quality life. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are enriched in the central nervous system and play indispensable roles in numerous biological processes, while its regulatory function in nociceptive information processing remains elusive. Here, we reported that functional modulatory role of ENSRNOT00000071132 (lncRNA71132) in the BCP process and sponging with miR-143 and its downstream GPR85-dependent signaling cascade. ⋯ Overexpression of miR-143-5p in the spinal cord reverted the nociceptive behaviors triggered by BCP, accompanied by a decrease in expression of spinal GPR85 protein, but no influence on expression of gpr85 mRNA. The findings of this study indicate that lncRNA71132 works as a miRNA sponge in miR-143-5p-mediated posttranscriptional modulation of GPR85 expression in BCP. Therefore, epigenetic interventions against lncRNA71132 may potentially work as novel treatment avenues in treating nociceptive hypersensitivity triggered by bone cancer.

Analgesic Efficacy of Intravenous Ibuprofen in the Treatment of Postoperative Acute Pain: A Phase III Multicenter Randomized Placebo-ControlledDouble-Blind Clinical Trial.
To evaluate the analgesic efficacy and safety of different does of intravenous ibuprofen (IVIB) in the treatment of postoperative acute pain. ⋯ Intermittent IV administration of ibuprofen 400 mg or 800 mg within 24 h after surgery in patients undergoing abdominal and orthopedic surgery significantly decreased morphine consumption and relieved pain, without increasing the incidence of AEs.

Processing spatially distributed nociceptive information is critical for survival. The conditioned pain modulation (CPM) response has become a common psychophysical test to examine pain modulation capabilities related to spatial filtering of nociceptive information. Neuroimaging studies have been conducted to elucidate the neural mechanisms underlying the CPM response in health and chronic pain states, yet their findings have not been critically reviewed and synthesized before. ⋯ The summary includes functional MRI studies assessing CPM responses during scanning as well as functional and structural MRI studies correlating indices with CPM responses assessed outside of the scanner. The findings are discussed in relation to the suggested mechanisms for the CPM response. A better understanding of neural mechanisms underlying spatial processing of nociceptive information could advance both pain research and clinical use of the CPM response as a marker or a treatment target.
