Predictive value of oxidative, antioxidative, and inflammatory status for left ventricular systolic recovery after percutaneous coronary intervention for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.
This study aimed to evaluate the association between left ventricular ejection fraction recovery and the total oxidant status, total antioxidant capacity, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels. ⋯ Oxidative stress and inflammation parameters were detrimental to the recovery of left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction.

Polymorphisms rs2010963 and rs833061 of the VEGF gene in polycystic ovary syndrome.
The polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common endocrine disorder, characterized by the dysregulation of ovarian angiogenesis. This alteration can be related to changes in the activities of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms have been observed in the promoter, intronic, and untranslated regions of the VEGF gene, and several studies have suggested that these polymorphisms may be associated with the risk of polycystic ovary syndrome. This study aimed to investigate the association between rs2010963 and rs833061 polymorphisms and haplotypes of VEGF in the etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome. ⋯ The patients with polycystic ovary syndrome have similar rates of VEGF polymorphisms rs2010963 and rs833061 on the general population.

The value of next-generation sequencing for the diagnosis of Streptococcus suis meningitis.
The aim of this study was to investigate the value of next-generation sequencing for the diagnosis of Streptococcus suis meningitis. ⋯ The positive detection rate of S. suis by the next-generation sequencing method was significantly higher compared with using a cerebrospinal fluid bacterial culture. Therefore, the next-generation sequencing method is valuable for the diagnosis of S. suis meningitis and is worthy of clinical application.

Comparison of C-reactive protein and C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio in predicting mortality among geriatric coronavirus disease 2019 patients.
The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare C-reactive protein and C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio performances in predicting mortality of geriatric patients who visited the emergency department. ⋯ Geriatric patients are the "most vulnerable" patient group against the COVID-19. In this study, both C-reactive protein and C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio were found to be successful in predicting mortality for geriatric COVID-19 patients.

Numerous physiological changes occur during pregnancy, which affect both the mother and the fetus. The objective of this study was to evaluate the magnesium, calcium, phosphate, parathormone (PTH), and vitamin D levels in each trimester of pregnancy. ⋯ For maintaining a healthy pregnancy and fetus, we recommend vitamin D, calcium, and magnesium levels to be included in routine follow-ups for each trimester and supplemented in case of deficiency.
