We compared the prevalence of adenoma and cancerous colon polyps in patients undergoing endoscopic removal or gastric surgery for gastric adenoma or gastric cancer and in healthy individuals. The medical records of 707 patients with gastric neoplasm and 798 age- and sex-matched healthy subjects were retrospectively analyzed between January 2010 and July 2018. The clinicopathological characteristics, prevalence of colorectal neoplasm diagnosed by colonoscopy, and risk factors for colorectal polyps were also investigated. ⋯ Patients with gastric neoplasms had a significantly higher prevalence of advanced colon adenoma. Advanced colon adenoma is associated with the chain from benign adenomas through malignant altered adenomas to advanced colon cancer. Thus, patients with gastric neoplasm are regarded as a high-risk group for colorectal cancer and are recommended for screening colonoscopy at the time of diagnosis.

Several studies have reported positive therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture, warm needling, or a combination of the 2 for heel pain; however, the quality of the evidence is limited by methodological limitations. Given that there are no high-quality meta-analyses or reviews incorporating the available evidence, the aim of this study was to systematically review the level I evidence in the literature to determine whether a combination of electroacupuncture and warm needling therapy is more beneficial than acupuncture alone in patients with plantar heel pain syndrome. ⋯ We initially hypothesized that combination therapy would lead to better treatment outcomes.Registration number: 10.17605/OSF.IO/VWBYJ.

Epidural abscess formation after chemoradiation therapy for esophageal cancer: A case report and literature review.
Esophageal cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide; the treatments vary according to the stage at diagnosis. Advanced esophageal cancer is usually treated by concurrent chemoradiation which is associated with complications including esophagitis, esophageal stricture or perforation, radiation pneumonitis, and/or cardiac toxicity. Herein, we describe epidural abscess, which is a very rare but severe complication that can occur after concurrent chemoradiation therapy for advanced esophageal cancer. ⋯ Pyogenic spondylitis with an epidural abscess is a rare but life-threatening complication that can develop after concurrent chemoradiation therapy for advanced esophageal cancer. Rapid, accurate diagnosis and prompt surgical treatment are important to ensure a favorable long-term prognosis and a good quality of life.

Gastric carcinoma (GC) is the fourth most common cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Most patients are diagnosed at later stage, because of few treatment options, the prognosis is poor. In recent years, however, Immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs), such as anti- programmed death-1 (PD-1), anti-PD-L1, and anti-cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4, have emerged as promising therapeutic agents in GC. Here, we summary the current treatment and advances of immune checkpoint inhibitors in the advanced stage of GC. ⋯ ICIs have shown encouraging treatment efficacy and manageable safety profile in GC. Some biomarkers including PD-L1, MSI-H, EBV, and TMB status could evaluate the efficacy of ICIs in GC.

Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by SARS-CoV-2, the pathogenic process of SARS-Cov-2 is related to the angiotensin-2 converting enzyme (ACE-2) on host cells. The genetic polymorphisms among different populations may influence the progression of COVID-19. However, the effects of IFNL4, ACE1, PKR, IFNG, and MBL2 in severe COVID-19 have not been systematically assessed. ⋯ CRD42022301735.
