Peritonsillar abscess caused by Prevotella bivia during home quarantine for coronavirus disease 2019: Case report.
Since late 2019, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) had rapidly spread worldwide, resulting in a pandemic. Patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have difficulty in visiting clinics in person during pandemic because they might be encouraged to quarantine at home with supportive care. Peritonsillar abscess rarely coexists with COVID-19; however, patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection could get co-infections or become superinfected with other microorganisms which could cause peritonsillar abscess. We herein describe a case of peritonsillar abscess caused by Prevotella bivia that occurred as a co-infection with COVID-19 during home quarantine. ⋯ Patients with suspected peritonsillar abscess should be triaged and referred to ear, nose, throat specialists appropriately. Scoring systems, such as modified Liverpool peritonsillar abscess score or the guidelines criteria might be useful tools to triage patients. During the early phase of SARS-CoV-2 infection, administration of corticosteroids is not recommended. When adjunctive steroids are considered for peritonsillar abscess, prior to or simultaneous use of the antiviral agent remdesivir for COVID-19 might be recommended.

Metronidazole-induced hepatotoxicity in a patient with xeroderma pigmentosum: A case report.
Whereas metronidazole-induced hepatotoxicity is quite rare in the general population, in individuals carrying a nucleotide excision repair disorder, namely Cockayne syndrome, there is a high risk of developing this complication. ⋯ We describe the first case available in the literature of hepatotoxicity associated with metronidazole treatment in a xeroderma pigmentosum patient. Clinicians therefore, based on this report and according to the possible underlying mechanism shared by other genetic diseases characterized by alterations in the pathway of DNA-repair, should consider such adverse event also in patients affected by this rare disease.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of an advanced neuroRehabilitation protocol using virtual reality in the treatment of a patient with fronto- temporal dementia due to TREM2 mutation. ⋯ Virtual reality can be considered a promising tool for the motor and cognitive rehabilitation of rare neurodegenerative disorders, including patients with NHD.

The nonstructured abstract were supplied as following: Estrogen receptor is involved in the pathogenesis of recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA). The ESR1 and ESR2 genes can mediate nongenomic estrogen responses. This study aimed to assess the genetic association between the ESR1 and ESR2 genes polymorphisms and RSA susceptibility in a Chinese Han population. ⋯ In addition, no association was found between the alleles, genotypes, and haplotypes of ESR2 rs207764, rs4986938, rs1256049 polymorphisms and RSA risk (P > .05). In conclusion, the haplotype rs9340799A-rs2234693C-rs3798759A of ESR1 might be a risk factor. And the haplotype rs9340799G-rs2234693C-rs3798759A of ESR1 might be a protective factor for RSA in a Chinese Han population.

Epidural abscess formation after chemoradiation therapy for esophageal cancer: A case report and literature review.
Esophageal cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide; the treatments vary according to the stage at diagnosis. Advanced esophageal cancer is usually treated by concurrent chemoradiation which is associated with complications including esophagitis, esophageal stricture or perforation, radiation pneumonitis, and/or cardiac toxicity. Herein, we describe epidural abscess, which is a very rare but severe complication that can occur after concurrent chemoradiation therapy for advanced esophageal cancer. ⋯ Pyogenic spondylitis with an epidural abscess is a rare but life-threatening complication that can develop after concurrent chemoradiation therapy for advanced esophageal cancer. Rapid, accurate diagnosis and prompt surgical treatment are important to ensure a favorable long-term prognosis and a good quality of life.
