Comparative evaluation of pain rating scales for dental pain among the Saudi population: A cross-sectional study.
Pain, being a subjective phenomenon, is perceived in different manner by individuals based on various factors including age and gender. Various scales are available in literature to assess and record the pain perceived by an individual. Comparison of commonly used pain perception scales among Saudi Arabian population is scarce. ⋯ A strong positive correlation was found between VAS and WBS score which was found to be statistically significant in both the groups. Both VAS and WBS are reliable tool to record pain perception in both age groups. WBS is found to be easier and more convenient one.

Effect of statin on long-term outcomes in persistent tobacco users receiving percutaneous coronary intervention: A longitudinal, retrospective cohort study.
The role of statins in improving cardiovascular outcomes is well established, but little is known about their impacts on long-term outcomes in persistent tobacco users with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) who receive percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). A population of persistent smokers with CAD treated by PCI was analyzed. From 2012 through 2019, a cohort of 907 persistent tobacco users with stable CAD undergoing PCI were enrolled from the inpatient department of Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital, Taiwan. ⋯ In persistent tobacco users undergoing PCI, patients treated with statin for LDL-C values above 100 mg/dL had a similar level of cardiovascular protection as those with LDL-C below 100 mg/dL and without statin treatment. Therefore, smoking attenuates pleiotropic effect of statin. Nevertheless, statin therapy was still associated with a reduction of all-cause mortality.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease, a hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy, presents with progressive chronic sensory and distal motor polyneuropathy. While sensorineural hearing loss and vestibular impairment have been documented in CMT patients, concurrent middle ear cholesteatoma and persistent direction-changing positional nystagmus have not. ⋯ This case highlights 3 key points: facial nerve hypertrophy in CMT requiring differentiation from schwannoma, the first reported instance of middle ear cholesteatoma in a CMT patient, and vertigo due to acute otitis media complicated by serous labyrinthitis, manifesting as direction-changing positional nystagmus. These findings underscore the need for thorough diagnosis and management in such presentations. This is the first report of concomitant middle ear cholesteatoma in a CMT patient, illustrating the complexity of diagnosis and treatment.

Horn pregnancy is a rare subtype of ectopic pregnancy that presents a diagnosis and treatment challenge due to its nonspecific symptoms and high risk of rupture. ⋯ This case highlights the success of combining low molecular weight heparin with traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of cornual pregnancy. Factors affecting horn pregnancy, diagnostic challenges, and treatment considerations are discussed. Further research is necessary to determine the best management strategy and to ensure safe delivery for patients with impaired fertility but a strong desire to conceive.

Through family investigation, the genetic map was drawn and audiological characteristics were analyzed. High-throughput sequencing was used to screen the deafness genes of the proband. Sanger sequencing was used to verify the suspected pathogenic sites in the family. ⋯ In this study, a new locus of the TRIOBP gene was found, which enriched the gene mutant spectrum and clarified the pathogenic gene of the proband. However, the etiology of deafness in other members of the family needs to be further analyzed.
