Previous studies have shown that patients with polycythemia vera (PV) have poor quality of life (QoL). Similarly, it has been shown that survival is influenced by QoL. We aimed to evaluate QoL in 88 Turkish patients with PV. ⋯ Higher leucocyte counts were associated with decreased physical functioning and greater fatigue. In conclusion, we demonstrated deterioration of physical and emotional QoL in patients diagnosed with PV. Patients with PV require individualized, patient-specific and integrated approaches in order to minimize symptoms, improve QoL, and increase survival.

Association of blood urea nitrogen to creatinine ratio with incident type 2 diabetes mellitus: A retrospective cohort study in the Chinese population.
Renal dysfunction can lead to insulin resistance and increase the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The blood urea nitrogen to creatinine ratio (NCR) is a frequently used indicator to assess renal dysfunction and differentiate between prerenal and intrinsic renal injury. However, the association between NCR and T2DM in the Chinese population remains unclear. ⋯ The higher NCR groups (≥20) had a higher ratio of T2DM (HR = 1.28, 95% CI: 1.18-1.38, P < .001) than the lowest NCR group (<20). These findings were validated using sensitivity and subgroup analyses. In conclusion, this study found a positive and independent association between NCR and the incidence of T2DM after adjusting for confounding variables.

The common embryologic neural origin of the ectoderm includes the epidermal layer of the skin and the amelodentinal components of the teeth which can result in numerous diseases damaging both skin and dentition. Three main dental abnormalities were described as a consequence of congenital syphilis: Hutchinson incisors, bud molars, and mulberry molars which usually affect all permanent first molars. ⋯ It is recommended that gynecologists and pediatricians should be provided with additional information about the local and systemic factors that can lead to developmental diseases of the teeth.

Primary renal osteosarcoma is an exceedingly rare malignant tumor. Fewer than 30 cases have been reported in the literature since 1936. Furthermore, it has a high risk of metastasis and a poor overall prognosis rate. ⋯ The case reported here is an exceedingly rare malignant osteosarcoma that originated from the kidney with the invasion of the descending colon mesentery and the abdominal wall. The patient received treatment with a PD-1 antibody (2 weeks/once). However, the patient passed away 18 months after the surgery. With the application of genetic testing technology and advancements in molecular biology, it was expected that specific targeted therapies for this condition would emerge in the future.

Obstetric outcomes of women vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine (≥1 dose): A single-center retrospective cohort study of pregnant Chinese women.
In the context of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the quickly developed COVID-19 vaccine may cause various adverse reactions, especially in special groups, such as pregnant women. However, many pregnant women have concerns regarding vaccination in terms of safety for themselves and their neonates. Therefore, we studied the obstetric outcomes of pregnant women in Zunyi, China. ⋯ Based on the adverse reaction and obstetric outcome data of pregnant women who received the COVID-19 vaccine in China, the vaccine does not raise any safety concerns. This result is the same as that of other countries we summarized. The COVID-19 vaccine has no effect on pregnancy outcomes.
