Retrospective radiographical study. ⋯ Atypical curve patterns were more predominant in male than in female patients with AIS. The thoracic curve in male patients with AIS might have higher incidence of progression than that in female patients. The higher rigidity of both thoracic and lumbar curves in male patients with AIS with severe curves might contribute to the lower curve correction rate and poor response to brace than in female cases.

A 10-point questionnaire was constructed to identify the philosophy of surgeons on various aspects of scoliosis surgery, such as choice of implant, bone graft, autologous blood transfusion, cord monitoring, and computer-assisted surgery. Comparisons were then made with recommendations published in the spinal literature. ⋯ This survey shows interesting variations in scoliosis surgery in the United Kingdom. It may reflect the conflicting evidence in the literature.

A dissection-based study of 30 embalmed cadavers. ⋯ The dorsal meningovertebral ligaments may contribute to dura laceration and epidural hemorrhage during flavectomy and laminectomy, and an appreciation of this relationship might help reduce the risk of such complications.

Investigation of injectable nucleus pulposus (NP) implant. ⋯ An injectable implant that mimics nondegenerate NP has the potential to return motion segment ROM to normal subsequent to injury.
