Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialA randomized controlled clinical trial for low back pain treated by acupressure and physical therapy.
Although acupressure has been reported to be effective in managing various types of pain, its efficacy in relieving pain associated with low back pain (LBP) remains unclear. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of acupressure with that of physical therapy in reducing low back pain. ⋯ Our results suggest that acupressure is another effective alternative medicine in reducing low back pain, although the standard operating procedures involved with acupressure treatment should be carefully assessed in the future.

Comparative StudyTesting for prostate and colorectal cancer: comparison of self-report and medical record audit.
Self-reported data are often used to determine cancer screening test utilization, but self-report may be inaccurate. ⋯ Overreporting for some cancer tests should be considered when using self-reported data to evaluate progress towards reaching national goals for prevention behaviors.

Where's Maria? A video to increase awareness about breast cancer and mammography screening among low-literacy Latinas.
The need exists to educate and motivate medically disadvantaged Latinas to engage in regular mammography screening to reduce their high breast cancer (BC) mortality risk due to the illness' late detection. ⋯ Complex attitudinal and behavioral issues can be effectively targeted to decrease the influence that psychological barriers exert in Latinas low breast cancer screening rates.

Patient and provider barriers to colorectal cancer screening in the primary care safety-net.
This study examines patient and provider barriers to screening for colorectal cancer among low-income uninsured African-Americans aged 50 years or older in an urban safety-net primary care clinic, with the goal of informing a future intervention. ⋯ Organizational level interventions, such as a team approach to colorectal cancer screening, are important areas identified for future colorectal cancer screening interventions in the safety-net primary care setting. Larger policy efforts to provide coverage for screening, diagnosis, and treatment among the uninsured are critical to implementing adequate colorectal cancer screening for this population.

Abdominal adiposity in U.S. adults: prevalence and trends, 1960-2000.
There is a large body of epidemiologic evidence linking abdominal obesity to cardiovascular diseases. Abdominal adiposity is an important component of insulin resistance syndrome. ⋯ The increase in the prevalence of abdominal obesity in the United States between 1960-1962 and 1999-2000 has ominous public health implications across entire population, particularly among normal weight subjects. There is an urgent need to describe a public health strategy for early identification of abdominal obesity. Primary prevention of obesity, including abdominal obesity, should be a major public health priority in the United States.
