Malignant pancreatic tumors in children and young adults: evaluation of 228 patients identified through the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result (SEER) database.
Malignant pancreatic tumors are rare in young patients, few epidemiologic data are available. We reviewed prognostic factors and outcome of 228 patients <30 years with malignant pancreatic tumors identified through the U.S. National Cancer Institute's SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results) Public-use Database from 1973 to 2004. ⋯ Malignant pancreatic tumors are extremely rare in children and young adults. Entities change over the age groups towards more carcinomas with worse outcome in older patients. Tumor stage, histology and age group are important predictors for outcome. International collaboration is needed to learn more about pediatric pancreatic tumors.

Practice Guideline[Interdisciplinary AWMF guideline for the diagnostics of primary immunodeficiency].
Primary immunodeficiencies are potentially life-threatening diseases. Over the last years, the clinical phenotype and the molecular basis of an increasing number of immunological defects have been characterized. However, in daily practice primary immunodeficiencies are still often diagnosed too late. Considering that an early diagnosis may reduce morbidity and mortality of affected patients, an interdisciplinary guideline for the diagnosis of primary immunodeficiencies was developed on behalf of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Pädiatrische Immunologie (API) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Immunologie (DGfI). ⋯ The postulated key messages were discussed and voted on following a structured consensus procedure. In particular, modified warning signs for primary immunodeficiencies were formulated and immunological emergency situations were defined.

Practice Guideline[Evidence and consensus based treatment guidelines 2010 for juvenile idiopathic arthritis by the German Society of Paediatric Rheumatology].
Treatment of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) has improved quality of life in children and adolescents with JIA. Standardisation of care offers the chance to improve the quality of care of those patients. New studies have been published after completion of our last treatment guideline (2007). An updated consensus process is mandatory. ⋯ Updated consensus statements regarding drug therapy, symptomatic and surgical management of JIA were compiled and judged strictly by the criteria of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM).
