Multicenter Study Comparative Study[Whole-body-CT in Severely Injured Children. Results of Retrospective, Multicenter Study with Patients from the TraumaRegsiter DGU®].
A fast and comprehensive diagnostic by means of whole-body CT has been shown to reduce mortality in the adult trauma population. Therefore whole-body CT seems to be the standard in adult trauma-patients. Due to the higher radiation exposure of whole-body CT the use of this diagnostic toll in pediatric trauma patients is still under debate. It is not yet clear if whole-body CT in children can increase the probability of survival. ⋯ Due to the missing advantage of whole-body CT in the pediatric trauma population and the higher radiation exposure of whole-body CT a non-whole-body CT approach seems equivalent with a lower radiation exposure.

Multicenter StudySeptic shock in children in an urban area in Western Germany--outcome, risk factors for mortality and infection epidemiology.
Only sparse data exist about children with septic shock in Europe. The present study aimed to evaluate demographics, treatment, outcome and risk factors for mortality in Western Germany. ⋯ Mortality from pediatric septic shock in an urban area in Western Germany is high. Disease severity and treatment in a department with few cases were associated with increased mortality.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Controlled Clinical TrialSurfactant without intubation in preterm infants with respiratory distress: first multi-center data.
Recently in a report of a single center a method has been described to apply surfactant via a thin endotracheal catheter to very low birth weight infants spontaneously breathing with nasal continuous positive airway pressure. We now analyzed available multicenter data. ⋯ A new method of surfactant application was associated with a lower prevalence of mechanical ventilation and better pulmonary outcome. A prospective controlled trial is required to determine whether this approach is superior to standard care.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyAcupuncture to alleviate chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in pediatric oncology - a randomized multicenter crossover pilot trial.
We investigated whether acupuncture as a supportive antiemetic approach reduces the need for antiemetic rescue medication during highly emetogenic chemotherapy in pediatric oncology. We report on a multicenter crossover study at 5 tertiary hospitals in Germany. ⋯ Acupuncture as applied here seems to be effective in preventing nausea and vomiting in pediatric cancer patients.
