[Results of visual perception tests in prematurely born children of pre-school age (author's transl)].
Taking into account the criterions "birth weight", "small for date" (birth weight in relation to gestational age), "perinatal complications", "normal delivery" and "oxygen post partum" 32 children of pre-school age, who had been prematurely born tested with the following variables of the FROSTIG developmental tests of visual perception: visuo-motor coordination, figure-ground discrimination, perceptual constancy, space perception and perception of spacial relations. There were not significant differences between the premature-groups. No relations could be found between the quantity of O2 post partum and the tested abilities. ⋯ The different abilities were not related to the birth weight. Extensive deficits were observed in the "small for date" born prematures. The results are discussed with regard to their therapeutic relevance.

Case Reports[Prader-Labhart-Willi syndrome with precocious puberty. (author's transl)].
At least in boys hypogenitalism is a constant feature of the Prader-Labhart-Willi Syndrome. Our patient, a 16 10/12 years old girl had the characteristic symptoms of the syndrome and precocious puberty. Menarche had occurred at the age of 8 6/12 years. Precocious puberty does not exclude the diagnosis of a Prader-Labhart-Willi syndrome.

Centralized treatment of critically ill pediatric patients and related problems are presented. Pediatric intensive care allows to overbridge deranged or interrupted organ functions while simultaneously treating the disease causing the disturbance. Its efficiency depends on continuity of medical care. ⋯ Some special aspects such as staffing, transportation of high-risk neonates, economy of operation and personal training programm are discussed. Results of pediatric intensive care at the University Children's Hospital Heidelberg are documented. Regionalisation of neonatal care is discussed based on the actuell situation in Baden-Württemberg.

[Diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar diabetic coma in childhood. Low-dose continuous intravenous infusion of insulin (author's transl)].
Continuous intravenous infusion of low doses of insulin has been successfully used since 1972 in the treatment of "diabetic coma". The achieved levels of plasma insulin satisfy the transport of glucose and the inhibition of lipolysis. We are to report upon 8 children (mean age: 8.5 years), 6 with diabetic ketoacidosis and 2 with hyperosmolar diabetic coma. ⋯ The administration of bicarbonate should be cautiously used for patients with severe acidosis. Infusion of hypotonic solutions as part of the treatment of the hyperosmolar diabetic coma can be dangerous. A new therapeutic regime based on our results is proposed.

[The importance of linear fractures of the skull in infancy (author's transl)].
The importance of 33 infants with linear fractures of the skull caused by minor head injuries were studied. 32 of them were conscious and without neurological deficit. In 9 infants we noted transient focal pathological EEG changes. ⋯ But the considerable clinical importance of the linear fractures of the skull consists of the intracranial complications provoked by the anatomical specificities. This is demonstrated by an 8 months old infant, who developed an epidural hematoma after a minor head injury.
