Expressing uncertainty in clinical interactions between physicians and older patients: what matters?
Uncertainty is one key factor influencing physician and patient behavior. We examined the propensity to express uncertainty on mental health versus biomedical issues by elderly patients (>65 years) and physicians during primary care visits. ⋯ Understanding the inherent uncertainties in medicine can help physicians and patients engage in more productive discussion about both biomedical and mental health topics.

Health care providers (HCPs) can play an important role in promoting smoking cessation and preventing relapse. Public Health Service guidelines recommend the "5A's" model of brief intervention. The goal of the current study was to examine cancer patients' perceptions of 5A's model implementation by their oncology HCPs. ⋯ Efforts to increase smoking cessation treatment provision by HCPs may improve the rate of cessation among cancer patients, and ultimately translate into better long-term cancer treatment outcomes.

The purpose of this study was to assess physician assistant training programs incorporation of firearm injury prevention training in their curricula. Also, content of such programs as well as perceived benefits and barriers of providing such training were explored. ⋯ Physician Assistant training program directors should consider offering firearm injury prevention training to help reduce patient suicides and homicides.

A systematic review of the literature was conducted to characterise patients' own experience of colonoscopy in the screening context. ⋯ Patient reported obstacles and barriers to screening colonoscopy needs to be addressed to improve adherence.
