To investigate, if a train of spin-lock pulses (chemical exchange saturation transfer with spin-lock pulses = CESL) improves biochemical glycosaminoglycan imaging compared with conventional chemical exchange saturation transfer with Gaussian-shaped pulses (CEST) in lumbar intervertebral discs. ⋯ CESL does not improve the chemical exchange asymmetry effect compared with conventional CEST, but leads to comparable results. To investigate systematic errors in traditional quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) where background field removal and local field inversion (LFI) are performed sequentially, to develop a total field inversion (TFI) QSM method to reduce these errors, and to improve QSM quality in the presence of large susceptibility differences. ⋯ Preconditioned total field inversion improves the accuracy of QSM over the traditional method where background and local fields are separately estimated. To develop single and double acquisition methods to compensate for artifacts from eddy currents and transient oscillations in balanced steady-state free precession (bSSFP) with centric phase-encoding (PE) order for magnetization-prepared bSSFP imaging. ⋯ The proposed single and double acquisition methods can be useful for artifact-free magnetization-prepared bSSFP imaging with desired contrast and minimized dummy scans. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) artifacts are originated from various sources including instability of an magnetic resonance (MR) system, patient motion, inhomogeneities of gradient fields, and so on. Such MRI artifacts are usually considered as irreversible, so additional artifact-free scan or navigator scan is necessary. To overcome these limitations, this article proposes a novel compressed sensing-based approach for removal of various MRI artifacts. ⋯ The proposed method may be a robust correction solution for various MRI artifacts that can be represented as sparse outliers. Either SENSE+CG or POCS-ICE methods can be used to correct for motion-induced phase errors in navigator-free multishot diffusion imaging. SENSE+CG has the advantage of a fast convergence, however, occasionally the convergence can be unstable, thus degrading the image quality. POCS-ICE has a stable convergence and can be used with a high number of shots, but its convergence is slow, which limits its practical usage. The study here proposes an improved method based on both SENSE+CG and POCS-ICE, called Phase-updated Regularized SENSE (PR-SENSE), for navigator-free multishot diffusion imaging. ⋯ Given its advantages, PR-SENSE is a significant improvement over other methods for navigator-free high-resolution DWI.
