Review Meta AnalysisGenetic variants and acute kidney injury: A review of the literature.
Limited data exists on potential genetic contributors to acute kidney injury. This review examines current knowledge of AKI genomics. ⋯ Most studies of AKI genetics involve hypothesis-driven (rather than hypothesis-generating) candidate gene investigations that have failed to identify contributory variants consistently. A limited number of unbiased, larger-scale studies have been carried out, but there remains a pressing need for additional GWA studies.

Review Meta AnalysisEffect of antibiotics administered via the respiratory tract in the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
We evaluated the effect of antibiotics administered via the respiratory tract to prevent the ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in mechanically ventilated (MV) patients. ⋯ Prophylactic antibiotics administered through the respiratory tract by nebulization reduce the occurrence of VAP, without a significant effect on either the ICU mortality or occurrence of VAP due to MDR pathogens.

Review Meta AnalysisHigh-flow oxygen therapy in immunocompromised patients with acute respiratory failure: A review and meta-analysis.
Acute respiratory failure remains a common hazardous complication in immunocompromised patients and is associated with increased mortality rates when endotracheal intubation is need. We aimed to evaluate the effect of high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy (HFNC) compared with other oxygen technique for this patient population. ⋯ The results of current meta-analysis suggest that use of HFNC significantly improve outcomes of acute respiratory failure in immunocompromised patients. Owing to the quality of the included studies, further adequately powered randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm our results.

Review Meta AnalysisMagnesium status and magnesium therapy in cardiac surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis focusing on arrhythmia prevention.
To investigate magnesium as prophylaxis or treatment of postoperative arrhythmias in cardiac surgery (CS) patients. To assess impact on biochemical and patient-centered outcomes. ⋯ Magnesium administration post-CS appears to reduce AF without significant adverse events. There is limited evidence to support magnesium administration for prevention of other arrhythmias.

Review Meta AnalysisRisk factors for postoperative acute mesenteric ischemia among adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
We aimed to seek risk factors for AMI among adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ 14 risk factors were associated with an increased risk of AMI, which indicated that AMI might occur via stenosis or occlusion of mesenteric vessels, reduced blood volume or maldistribution of blood flow.
