Long-term ulcerative colitis (UC) is associated with both dysbiosis in intestinal microbiota and predisposition to colorectal cancer. In this study, we investigated whether microbiota from patients with UC could increase colorectal carcinogenesis in mice, generated by azoxymethane through intraperitoneal injection. ⋯ Fecal microbiota from patients with UC exacerbate tumorigenesis in mice. The disturbance of intestinal microbiota and activation of T helper cells types 1 and 17 cytokines caused by gavaging microbiota from patients with UC both contributed to intestinal carcinogenesis.

Doxorubicin (Dox) is an indispensable chemotherapeutic agent associated with damaging cardiotoxicity. Baicalin (BA) is a flavonoid, extracted from the medicinal plant Scutellariae baicalensis Georgi. BA is well known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. ⋯ Dox-induced elevation of MDA and reduction of GSH were reversed by BA. BA exhibited a novel cardioprotective effect against Dox-induced cardiotoxicity. The cardioprotective effect was indicated through the inhibition of the inflammatory TLR4/NF-κB pathway and the activation of the protective Wnt/β-catenin pathway by the suppression of DKK1.
