WT1 and interferon-β-vitamin D association in MS: a longitudinal study.
It has been suggested that polymorphisms in the WT1 gene modulate the effect of IFN-β treatment in multiple sclerosis (MS) through regulation of the relationship between IFN-β and vitamin D. ⋯ In this prospective study with repeated measurements of 25-hydroxyvitamin D before and during treatment with IFN-β, we did not find that genetic variation in WT1 plays any role in regulating the relationship between IFN-β and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

Morphology of the human cervical vagus nerve: implications for vagus nerve stimulation treatment.
The vagus nerve has gained a role in the treatment of certain diseases by the use of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS). This study provides detailed morphological information regarding the human cervical vagus nerve at the level of electrode implant. ⋯ We conclude by stating that one has to look at the vagus nerve as a morphological entity of the peripheral autonomic nervous system, a composite of different fibres and (anastomosing and hitchhiking) branches of different origin with different neurotransmitters, which can act both parasympathetic and sympathetic. Electrically stimulating the vagus nerve therefore is not the same as elevating the 'physiological parasympathetic tone', but may also implement catecholaminergic (sympathetic) effects.

Serum soluble CD40 ligand levels after acute intracerebral hemorrhage.
Soluble CD40 ligand (sCD40L) is associated with inflammation. This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of sCD40L for clinical outcomes of acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) patients. ⋯ Elevated serum sCD40L levels are independently associated with ICH severity and clinical outcomes. And sCD40L has potential to be a good prognostic biomarker of ICH.

Sleep apnea in patients reporting insomnia or restless legs symptoms.
Insomnia and restless legs syndrome (RLS) are defined by self-reported symptoms, and polysomnography (PSG) is not routinely indicated. Occult obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), common even in asymptomatic adults, may complicate management of patients presenting with insomnia or restless legs. To this end, we investigated objective sleep apnea metrics in a large retrospective cohort according to self-reported symptom profiles. ⋯ Objective evidence of OSA occurs similarly in those with insomnia or restless legs symptoms, even among those without self-reported OSA symptoms. Providers should be aware of the potential for occult OSA in populations with insomnia and restless legs, which may complicate their management in addition to presenting an independent medical risk itself.

Stiripentol for the treatment of super-refractory status epilepticus.
To determine whether stiripentol (STP) might be a treatment option in super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE). ⋯ Based on our presented cases and previous experimental animal data, STP may prove useful in treating super-refractory SE. Prospective trials are warranted to examine the efficacy of the STP in adults with refractory SE and to examine whether earlier treatment leads to better control of SE.
