Skin microcirculatory changes reflect early the circulatory deterioration in a fulminant sepsis model in the pig.
In the pathophysiology of sepsis tissue perfusion dysfunction is a crucial driving force. Thus the early recognition is highly important. Concerning the early hours of bacteremia, and the systemic inflammatory response reaction leading to sepsis we aimed to investigate the micro- and macrocirculatory changes. ⋯ During bacteremia and the early phase of sepsis microcirculatory impairment can be detected soon, even hours before the deterioration in hemodynamic parameters in this porcine model.

Comparative StudyEffect of protective solutions and hydroxyethyl starch in the attenuation of the injuries of ischemia and reperfusion of splanchnic organs.
Vogt´s antioxidant solution (red blood cells, Ringer's solution, sodium bicarbonate, mannitol, allopurinol and 50% glucose) or its modification including hydroxyethyl starch (HES) were tested for the prevention of splanchnic artery occlusion shock. ⋯ Hydroxyethyl starch was able to prevent hemodynamic shock but not intestinal lesions. Both treatments with Vogt's solutions did not show any improvement.

Effects of ropivacaine combined with morphine at 0.15 and 0.2 mg kg(-1) in bitches undergoing epidural anesthesia.
To investigate cardiorespiratory effects and serum concentration of ropivacaine combined with morphine at different doses. ⋯ The procedures were performed safely and minimal changes in cardiovascular and respiratory variables.

Clotting factor XIII and desmopressin improve hemostasis in uncontrolled bleeding.
To investigate hemostatic effects of supplementary factor XIII and desmopressin (DDAVP) in resuscitation of uncontrolled bleeding. ⋯ Normotensive resuscitation provokes more bleeding and worsens coagulation compared to pH, that is partially reversed by factor XIII and desmopressin. FXIII and DDAVP can synergistically improve coagulation. Permissive hypotension reduces bleeding regardless of those agents.

Comparative StudyHemodynamic changes with two lipid emulsions for treatment of bupivacaine toxicity in swines.
To compare the hemodynamic changes following two different lipid emulsion therapies after bupivacaine intoxication in swines. ⋯ Both lipid emulsions were efficient and similar options to reverse hypotension in cases of bupivacaine toxicity.
