Intraoperative Dexmedetomidine and Ketamine Infusions in an Enhanced Recovery After Thoracic Surgery Program: A Propensity Score Matched Analysis.
To assess the impact of intraoperative dexmedetomidine and ketamine on postoperative pain and opioid consumption within an ERAS program in thoracic pulmonary oncologic surgery. ⋯ There were no differences in postoperative pain scores and opioid consumption throughout their hospital stay between patients receiving concomitant dexmedetomidine and ketamine infusions versus patients who did not receive these infusions during thoracic surgery.

Observational StudyAssociation Between Preoperative Statin Exposure and Acute Kidney Injury in Adult Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery.
The existing literature has shown conflicting results regarding the association between preoperative statin exposure and the risk of postoperative cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI). ⋯ Preoperative statin exposure was associated with all stages of postoperative CSA-AKI and stage 3 CSA-AKI.

Case ReportsRemoval of a Knotted Pulmonary Artery Catheter Using a Percutaneous Tracheostomy Set.
Placement of a pulmonary artery catheter is not a risk-free technique. Related incidents include ventricular arrhythmias, air embolisms, pulmonary artery perforation, infections, or catheter thrombosis. Herein the authors report a rare complication-the intracardiac knotting and its successful extraction using a percutaneous tracheostomy set in a hemodynamically compromised patient after a heart transplant.

General Anesthesia Leads to Underestimation of Regurgitation Severity in Patients With Secondary Mitral Regurgitation Undergoing Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair.
To evaluate the effect of general anesthesia (GA) on severity of mitral regurgitation (MR) in patients undergoing transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR). ⋯ GA underestimates regurgitation severity in patients with secondary, but not primary MR, undergoing TMVR. This effect must be considered when evaluating the immediate result of the procedure.

Analysis of the Performance of Daily Surgery Score (CASUS) in Patients with Mixed Racial Profile after Cardiac Surgery: A Single-Center Retrospective Study.
The aim was to look at the Cardiac Surgery Score (CASUS) assessment after cardiac surgery, and compare it with the intensive care unit (ICU) mortality and morbidity, in a racially diverse group of patients, in a single center. ⋯ This study found that CASUS on POD 1, mean values of CASUS during CTICU stay, and CASUS at death/discharge from CTICU predicted ICU mortality after cardiac surgery in this racially diverse group. The CASUS derivatives can be used to predict unfavorable outcomes after cardiac surgery. A POD1-CASUS value of 6.5 or more could signify mortality and postoperative morbidity.
