THE EFFECT OF BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE A IN PATIENTS WITH ESSENTIAL BLEPHAROSPASM.
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of botulinum toxin type A and satisfaction in patients with essential blepharospasm. The study included 12 subjects suffering from essential blepharospasm who received therapy with botulinum toxin type A injections. Respondents were given a Blepharospasm Disability Index (BSDI) survey before and three weeks after the procedure with questions related to quality of life. ⋯ The severity of symptoms after the application of botulinum toxin was reduced, which meant that there was a decrease in the severity of the difficulties, and the study found a statistically significant difference (p=0.003). The frequency of symptoms was reduced after botulinum toxin administration, and the study revealed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.012). From the results of this study, we can determine that the use of botulinum toxin type A increases the quality of life and that the severity and frequency of symptoms are statistically significantly reduced.

Case ReportsPULMONARY HEMORRHAGE AND CRESCENTIC GLOMERULONEPHRITIS IN A PATIENT WITH SEROPOSITIVE ANTI-GLOMERULAR BASEMENT MEMBRANE DISEASE AND ANTI-NEUTROPHIL CYTOPLASMIC ANTIBODIES.
Anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease is an acute and life-threatening systemic autoimmune disorder. The coexistence of circulating anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) and anti-GBM disease, the so-called double-positive disease (DPD), is exceptionally rare. We report a unique case of DPD manifesting as pulmonary-renal syndrome (PRS) in a 46-year-old woman who first presented with clinical and radiological suspicion of pneumonia. ⋯ This case report highlights that pulmonary symptomatology may be the leading clinical presentation of PRS, with initially normal renal function at DPD onset. Early recognition and diagnosis are therefore crucial to timely clinical intervention. The role of prompt kidney biopsy and initiation of TPE and HD in PRS must not be underestimated.

Case ReportsOBSTETRIC INJURY OF THE RECTUM WITH INTACT ANAL SPHINCTER - TWO CASE REPORTS.
Injury of the rectum with intact anal sphincter is an extremely rare but very serious complication of vaginal delivery. It is also called a "buttonhole" tear. ⋯ The consequences for the wellbeing of young mothers with perineal injury can be serious and affect social and sexual aspects of their lives. Adequate surgical treatment and postoperative care assure optimal results and prevent long term complications such as fistulas or fecal incontinence.

Case ReportsSUCCESSFUL REPOSITIONING PROCEDURE FOR BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO AFTER STAPEDOTOMY.
This report aimed to investigate the relationship after successful left-sided stapedotomy and postoperative benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) due to vitamin D deficiency. A 56-year-old woman presented with a complaint of progressive hearing loss and tinnitus in the left ear without dizziness. A successful left-sided stapedotomy was performed, confirming the diagnosis of otosclerosis and closing the air-bone gap to less than 10 dB. ⋯ As a postoperative vertigo complication, BPPV often remains unrecognized after stapes surgery. Canalith repositioning maneuver is treatment for BPPV. Determining serum levels of total calcium and vitamin D may play a significant role in monitoring and reducing the recurrence of dizziness.

Review Case ReportsSURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF A PENETRATING BRAIN WOUND AND ASSOCIATED PERFORATING OCULAR INJURY CAUSED BY A LOW-VELOCITY SHARP METALLIC OBJECT: A CASE REPORT AND LITERATURE REVIEW.
Penetrating traumatic brain injury accompanied by perforating ocular injury caused by low-velocity foreign bodies is a life-threatening condition, a surgical emergency and a major challenge in surgical practice, representing a severe subtype of non-missile traumatic brain injury, which is a relatively rare pathology among civilians. Optimal management of such an injury remains controversial, requiring full understanding of its pathophysiology and a multidisciplinary expert approach. Herein, we report a case of penetrating brain and associated perforating eye injury and discuss relevant literature providing further insight into this demanding complex multi-organ injury. ⋯ The vision to his left eye was completely and permanently lost. In conclusion, management of non-missile transorbital penetrating brain injury can be satisfactory when proper clinical and radiologic evaluation, and amply, less radical surgical approach is performed early. A multidisciplinary routine is a prerequisite in achieving a favorable management outcome.
