SUBCLINICAL HYPOTHYROIDISM AS A CONTRIBUTOR TO MACROVASCULAR COMPLICATIONS IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS.
This study aimed to evaluate changes of the lipid panel data in patients with comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) and to identify the probable prognostic values of the lipid profile for macrovascular complication (MVC) development. The study included 370 patients presented with only T2DM and 30 patients suffering from both T2DM and SCH. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to identify prognostically significant values of the lipid profile with the optimal ratio of sensitivity and specificity for MVC development. ⋯ At the same time, SCH + T2DM increased the risk of exceeding target levels of triglycerides by 2.9 times and HDL-C by 4.1 times. Analysis of lipid profile values according to macrovascular involvement showed that total cholesterol, LDL-C and non-HDL-C in patients with T2DM and SCH were significantly higher compared to those with only T2DM. The levels of triglycerides >1.65 mmol/L, non-HDL-C >3.74 mmol/L and remnant cholesterol >0.74 mmol/L determined by the ROC analysis can be used for stratification of patients with T2DM combined with SCH into the category of increased risk of MVC development.

IMPACT OF CEMENTLESS ZWEYMÜLLER STEM ANTEVERSION ON RESISTANCE TO PERIPROSTHETIC FRACTURE IN TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY.
Total hip arthroplasty implies proper orientation of both acetabular and femoral components with a range of 25-40° of combined anteversion. The aim of the study was to examine resistance to periprosthetic fracture of the axially loaded cross section rectangular femoral stem (Zweymüller) with respect to different degrees of anteversion, implanted in the artificial bone model, in laboratory conditions. Femoral bone models with implanted femoral stems were divided into 3 groups depending on the degree of stem anteversion (A, control group 13-17°; B, stem retroverted 0°-4°; and C, stem anteverted 26-30°). ⋯ In our clinical practice, we are often unable to place the acetabular component in an ideal grade of anteversion for intraoperatively determined reasons. The results of this experimental study suggested that increasing rectangular femoral (Zweymüller) stem anteversion lowered the risk of PPFx. This study was limited by experimental design (laboratory conditions, artificial bone) and should be clinically verified.

MORPHOLOGICAL TRAITS OF HEPATIC PARENCHYMAL TISSUE REPAIR FOLLOWING EXPERIMENTAL INJURY.
The aim of the study was to investigate morphological traits of hepatic parenchymal tissue repair in response to injury using the conventional technique (closure) and an innovation method (such as hemostatic medication swab packing and modified batching). The experimental study was carried out on laboratory rats of the Winzar breed using light microscopy, standard stains for micropreparations, and morphometry. ⋯ Morphometric studies showed a significant decrease (p<0.001) in almost all indicators of the size of cells and nuclei both near necrosis and distant from it on day 28 of the experiment in the experimental group in comparison to the control group. The results obtained pointed to more intense repair processes when applying the innovation method.

DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEPATITIS C VIRUS INFECTION IN VOJVODINA.
The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of depression and anxiety among patients with chronic hepatitis C and how depression and anxiety correlate with respective health-related quality of life (HRQoL) domains, sociodemographic factors, and clinico-epidemiological characteristics. This prospective study involved 150 patients with chronic hepatitis C awaiting interferon treatment for hepatitis C and 150 healthy subjects. All individuals enrolled in the study completed the Short Form 36 (SF-36) questionnaire and Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale. ⋯ Unemployment was associated with a higher degree of depression and anxiety. There was no association identified between duration of the disease, route of hepatitis C virus transmission, existence of cirrhosis, and depression or anxiety. The findings of this study can assist in developing a standard protocol for the management of chronic hepatitis C that will include psychological assessment and support.

VISUAL OUTCOMES IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETIC MACULAR EDEMA TREATED WITH DEXAMETHASONE IMPLANT IN ROUTINE CLINICAL PRACTICE.
The aim was to evaluate visual outcomes of the real-life usage of dexamethasone (DEX) implants in diabetic macular edema (DME) patients and evaluate the possible additional visual acuity (VA) gain with combined treatment. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of DME patients treated with DEX implants. The mean best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and mean central retinal thickness (CRT) at baseline and one year were compared. ⋯ No difference in VA gain was found between the eyes receiving monotherapy and the eyes receiving combined treatment. In conclusion, DEX implant therapy was effective in gaining vision in DME patients. No additional VA gain was achieved with combined treatment.
