Clinical TrialStatistical analysis of blood pressure measurement errors by oscillometry during surgical operations.
Although a validated oscillometry sphygmomanometer satisfies the accuracy criteria of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), its long-term blood pressure (BP) measurement error during operations remains to be determined. We aim to (a) compare the error range throughout surgical operations with the accuracy criteria of AAMI, and (b) investigate the probabilities of occurrence of abnormal, large errors and clinically meaningful errors. ⋯ The SD of long-term BP measurement by our oscillometric method during operations exceeds AAMI accuracy criteria. And it is important to be aware of the abnormal large errors and clinically meaningful errors as their probabilities are rather significant. We analyze the possible cause of the major errors and deduce that similar errors may also happen with other oscillometric devices.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialContinuous noninvasive arterial pressure: assessment in older and high-risk patients under analgesic sedation.
To assess the role of continuous noninvasive arterial pressure (CNAP) in elderly, high-risk patients with pronounced variation in arterial pressure (AP) under analgesic sedation. ⋯ The agreement between the two techniques used in this study of elderly high-risk patients under analgesic sedation is similar to that found in studies performed under general anesthesia. The best agreement was detected in hypotensive periods.

Errors of oscillometric blood pressure measurement as predicted by simulation.
To study factors affecting the accuracy of oscillometric measurement. ⋯ Oscillometric readings of systolic and diastolic pressures are strongly influenced by pulse pressure and the shape of the artery-cuff pressure/volume curve, whereas those of the mean arterial pressure are affected by pulse pressure and both the shape of the artery-cuff pressure/volume curve and the shape of the arterial pulse.

Application of Nexfin noninvasive beat-to-beat arterial blood pressure monitoring in autonomic function testing.
Evaluation of autonomic function responses is increasingly important for risk prediction and hemodynamic evaluation in the ambulant and perioperative setting, but requires a noninvasive arterial blood pressure measurement device. This study describes whether a novel noninvasive beat-to-beat arterial blood pressure measurement device (Nexfin HD) is able to reproducibly reflect autonomic function responses in healthy volunteers. ⋯ This study shows that noninvasive beat-to-beat Nexfin HD arterial blood pressure measurements reproducibly reflect autonomic function responses in healthy volunteers.

Clinical TrialPerioperative blood pressure variability in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting: its magnitude and determinants.
The study aimed to assess the magnitude and determinants of perioperative blood pressure (BP) variability in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with the use of extracorporeal circulation (ECC). ⋯ Special attention in perioperative anesthetic management should be given not only to elder patients with many comorbid conditions, but also to younger and healthier participants because the latter are characterized by greater variations of BP during CABG.
