Pulmonary Artery Pressure and Variations in Arterial Blood Pressure During the Induction Period of General Anesthesia in Elderly Patients.
To determine the correlation of old age, pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) and mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) during anesthetic induction in elderly patients. ⋯ Increased PAP may be involved in the association between with aging and increased risk of hypotension during induction. Key Words: General anesthesia, Hypotension, Pulmonary arterial blood pressure, Old age.

The Effect of Tocilizumab on Inflammatory Markers in Survivors and Non-survivors of Severe COVID-19.
To determine the effects of tocilizumab (TCZ) on inflammatory markers, laboratory indices; and short-term outcome in patients with severe COVID-19. ⋯ Tocilizumab results in a significant reduction in CRP, while mean change in LDH and D-dimers was not substantial. The mean change in inflammatory markers did not predict survival. Key Words: Tocilizumab, COVID-19, Biomarkers, Outcome, Mortality.

Combined use of Risdon Wiring and Lingual Splint in Pediatric Mandibular Fractures.
To implement and evaluate a simplified, rapid, single-day emergency management technique for pediatric mandibular fractures, the author applied the current technique of using combined lingual splint with Risdon wiring under sedation anesthesia as a cohort study in a group of pre-school mandibular fracture children aged 4 to 6 years. Clinical outcome variables were fixation length and reduction simplicity, post-reduction occlusion, recovery of mouth opening, and degree of postoperative edema and pain. Age, gender, fracture site and the cause of injury were other study variables. ⋯ The clinical results obtained from the combined technique were promising in terms of rapid surgical duration, simplicity of fracture reduction, decreased postoperative pain and edema, rapid recovery of mouth opening without a recorded complication. It could be concluded that combining Risdon wiring with lingual splint is a simple, fast, and reliable fixation technique for managing pre-school mandibular pediatric fractures. Key Words: Lingual splint, Pediatric, Mandibular, Fracture.

Systemic Inflammatory Markers for Prediction of Bevacizumab Benefit in Glioblastoma Multiforme.
To evaluate the predictive significance of systemic inflammation markers (SIMs) in patients with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), who were treated with bevacizumab (Beva). ⋯ The present study's findings suggest that pretreatment CAR and PLR might be an independent predictive marker for patients with GBM, who are treated by Beva. Key Words: C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (AR), Glioblastoma multiforme, Neutrophil-to-lymphocyteratio (NLR), Platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), Predictive score.

High Flow Nasal Cannula Therapy in Children with Acute Respiratory Insufficiency in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of a Resource-limited Country: A Preliminary Experience.
A retrospective study was performed in children (aged one month - 16 years) receiving HFNC to determine the frequency, efficacy and adverse effects of high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), from January to December 2017. Treatment failure was defined as clinical deterioration on HFNC therapy such that mechanical ventilation (MV) was required. Clinical parameters before and after HFNC were assessed using repeated measures analysis of variance. ⋯ MV was required in 28 patients, and subsequently, 15 deaths occurred in that group. HFNC is a frequently used, safe and effective therapy for children requiring respiratory support in PICU. Key Words: Respiratory insufficiency, Non-invasive ventilation, Paediatric intensive care unit.
