Observational StudyPolymorphisms of the ABCB1 Gene in the Pakistani Population.
To investigate the frequency of the single nucleotide polymorphism C1236T in exon 12 of the ABCB1 gene in Pakistani population and to compare it with published data on Asian and Caucasian populations. ⋯ There was significant difference in the genotype frequency of the ABCB1 gene compared to other populations. This study has provided a framework for future pharmacogenetic and pharmacokinetic studies on this polymorphic variant of ABCB1 gene in the Pakistani population.

Observational StudyQuality of Colonoscopy and Spectrum of Lower Gastrointestinal Disease as Determined by Colonoscopy.
To document the quality of colonoscopy practice and the pattern of colonic disease including polyp detection rate at Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, Pakistan. ⋯ There is room for improvement in quality of colonoscopy, cecal intubation rate is slightly below the recommended standard and polyp detection rate is quite low however, it is not clear if the low rate of polyp detection is due to missed lesions or low population incidence. Time to reach caecum and withdrawal time should clearly be documented in the notes which can help to evaluate quality of the procedure in a better way.

Case ReportsCarcinomatous Meningitis: A Rare Complication of Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma.
Carcinomatous Meningitis (CM) is a relatively uncommon metastatic complication of systemic solid tumors. The condition is mostly diagnosed by presence of malignant cells in the cerebrospinal fluid. The prognosis of the condition is generally poor. ⋯ We present a case of a 58-year old female patient operated for pancreatic head carcinoma. She made an immediate uneventful recovery after her pancreatico-duodenectomy. She presented 3 weeks post-surgery with acute confusional state and was diagnosed as a case of CM.

Randomized Controlled TrialSerum Ischemia-Modified Albumin Levels in Experimental Model of Acute Pancreatitis.
To establish whether the Ischemia-Modified Albumin (IMA), a new parameter of oxidative stress, has diagnostic role in experimental acute pancreatitis. ⋯ The present study showed in a rodent model that serum IMA might serve as an additional marker to monitor inflammation during pancreatitis.
