Short-term prognosis and influencing factors of patients with acute kidney injury treated with prolonged intermittent renal replacement therapy.
Studies assessing prognosis after prolonged intermittent renal replacement therapy (PIRRT) for acute kidney injury (AKI) are scarce. ⋯ PIRRT improves survival and kidney function recovery in AKI patients. In patients with previous GFR ≥ 30 mL/(min-1.73 m2 ) and no prior maintenance dialysis, PIRRT at 3-5 sessions/week might be appropriate.

Evaluation of Bell's palsy in the cerebellopontine angle: An MRI study.
Evaluation of cranial nerve morphology through measuring cross-sectional area (CSA) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasing day-by-day in clinical diseases. In Bell's palsy (BP), the manifestation of the enlarged CSA of the facial nerve (FN) may be used for diagnosis. This study aims to evaluate whether there is an enlargement of the cisternal FN in BP. ⋯ Although entrapment of FN in the labyrinthine segment in BP was known, this study showed that the cisternal FN, which could be evaluated more conveniently, enlarged in the paralytic side compared with the normal side, and revealed the necessity of performing the comparison amongst the MRI studies on BP patients by a standardised measurement method. This study will also help clinicians to make a decision in the diagnosis of BP by giving a cut-off value for the CSA.

Study Of The Gut Microbiome In Egyptian Patients With Autoimmune Thyroid Diseases.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and Graves' disease (GD) are the most prevalent forms of autoimmune thyroid disorders (ATD). A pathogenic link with gut microbial dysbiosis has been described in different autoimmune disorders but not yet fully elucidated in patients with ATD. ⋯ Egyptian patients with ATD show dysbiosis of the gut microbiome that can be related to the pathogenesis of ATD. This hopefully points to the potential therapeutic benefits of manipulating the composition of the gut microbiome in the management or even protection from ATD.

Evaluation of Patient Safety Culture in Community Pharmacies in Qatar.
Patient safety culture is a key contributor to medication safety globally. However, the perspective of pharmacists and other personnel in community pharmacy regarding patient safety culture may vary from one country to another. ⋯ There was an overall positive perception towards patient safety culture among the surveyed community pharmacy personnel in Qatar. Superiority was observed with patient counselling and teamwork, while staffing, work pressure and pace were judged poorly, warranting further investigations and potential targeting for interventions.

Free Triiodothyronine to Free Thyroxine Ratio in the Differential Diagnosis of Thyrotoxicosis and Hyperthyroidism: A Retrospective Study.
Thyroid ultrasound, thyroid scintigraphy and radioactive iodine uptake (RAIU) tests are helpful in the differential diagnosis of thyrotoxicosis and hyperthyroidism. In the setting where these techniques are unavailable or unusable more accessible, and cheaper techniques would be helpful. ⋯ FT3/FT4 ratio helps distinguish GD and DT. In cases of situations where RAIU/scintigraphy and TRAb cannot be studied, the FT3/FT4 ratio is a viable diagnostic tool. Cut-off values with higher specificity can be more helpful in differential diagnosis of GD.
