Effect of Mutations in SOD1 and C9orf72 Genes on Autophagy in Lymphomonocytes in Myotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Insoluble protein inclusions accumulate in somatic cells in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The most common gene mutations associated with this pathology are SOD1 and C9orf72. Protein aggregates can be removed from cells by autophagy. ⋯ Genetic analysis for the presence of mutations in the SOD1 and C9orf72 genes and detection of autophagy marker LC3 in lymphomonocytes were performed. In amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, autophagy activation in lymphomonocytes was found. We also obtained evidence that protein product of the mutant C9orf72 gene can disturb the late stages of autophagy.

Effect of the Natural Cytokine Complex on the Structure and Metabolism of Contractile Myocardium Normally and under Increased Hemodynamic Load.
Effect of natural complex of cytokines with activity of IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, TNF, MIF, GTFβ on the structure and metabolism of contractile ventricular cardiomyocytes was assessed in the control and under conditions of acute experimental aortic stenosis. Systemic administration of the complex in the control had no significant effect on myocardial morphology with low number of damaged cardiomyocytes and low degree of structural damage. ⋯ In cardiomyocytes, glycolysis and citric acid cycle were slowed down, oxidation of free fatty acids and their metabolic products was inhibited as well as shuttle mechanisms and biosynthetic reactions. Inhibition of energy-producing processes is the cause of the lack of the contractile function energy supply and can worsen the course of cardiovascular diseases and increase the risk of their complications in conditions, accompanied by increased blood cytokine level.

Effects of Amygdaline from Apricot Kernel on Transplanted Tumors in Mice.
The effects of amygdaline from apricot kernel added to fodder on the growth of transplanted LYO-1 and Ehrlich carcinoma were studied in mice. Apricot kernels inhibited the growth of both tumors. ⋯ Thermal treatment did not considerably reduce the antitumor effect of apricot kernels. It was hypothesized that the antitumor effect of amygdaline on Ehrlich carcinoma and LYO-1 lymphosarcoma was associated with the presence of bacterial genome in the tumor.

Experimental study of the efficiency of oxidized dextran for prevention of influenza A/H5N1.
Oxidized dextran is suggested for prevention of infection induced by influenza A/H5N1 viruses, methods of its use and doses are determined. Two intravenous injections of dextran 3 and 1 days before experimental infection of outbred mice by influenza A/H5N1 A/goose/Krasnoozerskoye/627/05 virus resulted in a high preventive dose-dependent effect: the mean lifespan was 25% prolonged, the mortality decreased 3-fold.

Functional and metabolic changes in the brain in neuropathic pain syndrome against the background of chronic epidural electrostimulation of the spinal cord.
Changes in functional and metabolic activities of the brain were evaluated by EEG and positron-emission/computer tomography with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose in patients with neuropathic pain syndrome previous to and 3 months after implantation of a system for chronic epidural spinal cord stimulation. In most cases, the use of a nerve stimulator was followed by alleviation of neuropathic pain and partial normalization of functional and metabolic activities of brain structures responsible for pain perception, emotiogenic, behavioral, and autonomic responses.
