Can a target zone safer than Lewinnek's safe zone be defined to prevent instability of total hip arthroplasties? Case-control study of 56 dislocated THA and 93 matched controls.
Various factors contribute to instability of total hip arthroplasty (THA), with implant orientation being a major contributor. We performed a case-control study with computed tomography (CT) data to determine whether: 1) orientation contributes to THA instability and 2) a safer target zone for stability than Lewinnek's classic safe zone can be defined. ⋯ III case-control study.

Accuracy and reproducibility of preoperative three-dimensional planning for total hip arthroplasty using biplanar low-dose radiographs : A pilot study.
In total hip arthroplasty (THA), the acetabular cup and femoral stem must be correctly sized and positioned to avoid intraoperative and postoperative complications, achieve good functional outcomes and ensure long-term survival. Current two-dimensional (2D) techniques do not provide sufficient accuracy, while low-dose biplanar X-rays (EOS) had not been assessed in this indication. Therefore, we performed a case-control study to : (1) evaluate the prediction of stem and cup size for a new 3D planning technique (stereoradiographic imaging plus 3D modeling) in comparison to 2D templating on film radiographs and (2) evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of this 3D technique for preoperative THA planning. ⋯ Level III. Retrospective case-control study.

Chronic low back pain after lumbosacral fracture due to sagittal and frontal vertebral imbalance.
Over time, some patients with unilateral or bilateral lumbosacral injuries experience chronic low back pain. We studied the sagittal and frontal balance in a population with these injuries to determine whether mismatch in the pelvic and lumbar angles are associated with chronic low back pain. ⋯ IV.

Review Meta AnalysisEfficacy of vitamin C in preventing complex regional pain syndrome after wrist fracture: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Complex regional pain syndrome type I (CRPS-I), previously known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy, is common after conservatively or surgically treated wrist fractures. Several studies support the efficacy of vitamin C in preventing CRPS-I, although the data are somewhat conflicting. The primary objective of this systematic literature review and meta-analysis was to assess the efficacy of vitamin C therapy in preventing CRPS-I after a wrist fracture. ⋯ II, systematic review of level I and II studies.
